It mostly made it a very weak day of vaccination, instead of a downward revision across the board. Folks 65 and older still saw a small downward revision.
The changes I calculate today, are relative to yesterday's revised report.
Total Vaccine Doses Delivered: 2.2 Million (weak) (36,000 J&J - Very Weak)
Administered: 1.1 million (Extremely Weak) (114,000 J&J - new normal, similar to pre-pause weak deliveries)
People Vaccinated, 538,000 - (Weak, even for the new normal).
Fully Vaccinated: 628,000 (abysmally low).
% Total Population with at least a First Shot: 47.7 (up 0.2)
Those ≥ 18 Years of Age (Adults): 60% (up 0.2)

Cases and hospitalizations continued declining pretty strongly. Second day in a row with cases below the 20K threshold - sometimes discussed as a controlled level of the disease.

Yes, there have been lags in reporting all along. At least some of the state sites will show a mention of that. Looks like report lags are becoming more common now.
I asked a Walmart employee how it felt to be free of the masks. She said that she was happy about it but noticed offensive odors much more. ;) She explained that they’d become very accustomed to wearing masks for over a year.

Sounds reasonable, though IMO the urban number is probably much higher now given the nature of the rollout.

Maybe they are freaking out over the collapse in vaccination rates, or over the much worse than expected economic reports (April jobs, inflation).
These may have also been drivers for the suddenly revised CDC guidance on masks as well.
The worse things get the more erratic they may become.
The CDC guidance on masks is almost certainly being driven by political motives at this point. They just finally said people don’t need masks outside (which we’ve known for over a year thanks to numerous studies around the world), and then they immediately turned around and jumped to “vaccinated people can just go hog wild!”
Unlike policy setting (e.g mask guidelines), the numbers reporting isn’t a bunch of people sitting around in a room with bosses yelling in their ears about making x, y, and z problems go away. The numbers thing SHOULD simply be aggregating the data received from the various reporting entities. Now it’s possible that the data they’re receiving has been bad lately (garbage in, garbage out), but my inherent disdain for most Federal workers leads me to believe (possibly unfairly so) that the problem lies there. That somebody is punching all this into Excel and hit Tab at the wrong time.
I’m sure there are some very fine, very smart, hard working people in the Federal government. I’ve just never met them, nor witnessed any evidence that they exist.
ONLY an IDIOT would get an experimental vaccine for a virus that has a 99.85% survival rate.
