In a democracy, every vote is supposed to be equal. If about half the country supports one side and half the country supports another, you may expect major institutions to either be equally divided, or to try to stay politically neutral.
This is not what we find. If it takes a position on the hot button social issues around which our politics revolve, almost every major institution in America that is not explicitly conservative leans left. In a country where Republicans get around half the votes or something close to that in every election, why should this be the case?
This post started as an investigation into Woke Capital, one of the most important developments in the last decade or so of American politics. Although big business pressuring politicians is not new (the NFL moved the Super Bowl from Arizona over MLK day), the scope of the issues on which corporations feel the need to weigh in is certainly expanding, now including LGBT issues, abortion laws, voting rights, kneeling during the national anthem, and gun control.
Conservatives have taken notice. J.D. Vance appears ready to run for Senate, and it seems like opposing corporate power is going to be a major part of his political identity. Josh Hawley regularly introduces bills to harm this or that industry, often based on some position it has taken that he doesn’t like. We shouldn’t exaggerate the realignment too much; last time Republicans had control of government, their major legislative achievement was a corporate tax cut. Nonetheless, regardless of whether politicians are serious about doing something about Woke Capital, the phenomenon is interesting in and of itself for what it tells us about the nature of institutions in American society, and where our culture and politics are going.

It’s more than just leaning. Sports, Hollywood, academia, big media, big tech, big biz in general, our intel services, the military, and federal law enforcement. All far left. The consequence of decades of ideological subversion.
Backlash a-comin’. Whether it’s too late to save our culture and Republic, time will tell.
It’s the outcome of the “Long March Through the Institutions.”
A Republican in a hiring position would feel obligated to be fair to “the other side of the aisle.”
A leftist in a hiring position would never, ever, ever, ever, ever knowingly hire anyone who was not a leftist.
Avery interesting article. One thing I think it ignores is the influence of geography.
The strongest political trend of the last 30 years is cities getting liberal while rural areas going more conservative.
The problem for conservatives is all of the levers of power are in cities. Government offices, corporate HQs, television stations, universities, etc.
If all of those are liberal controlled they can impose their will on the rest of the country.
Dominion machines have been stealing elections for over a decade, I believe. They've gotten away with it for so long because they would only have to reverse about 5% of the votes at most. The vote for Trump was so overwhelming in 2016 that it overcame the cheat algorithm. Ditto for 2020, but a combination of stopping all counting so the cheat algorithm could be recalibrated and the cheat-by-mail-in ballots put Biden over the line. Thanks to Trump Derangement Syndrome, they were sloppy and had to photocopy massive amounts of ballots on election night. I hope one day to be proven correct.
Check the definition of liberal. Almost nothing these days is liberal. Leftist, yes. Liberal, ni.
The headline is a great question.
Even when Republicans WIN, they LOSE.
Republicans overwhelmingly voted for Donald Trump in 2016. For me, he was getting my vote from Day 1 anyway, but what he said about immigration and refugees was YUGE.
Well, he effectively shut down the border....YEAH.
He effectively shut down the refugee system....YEAH
He effectively shut down the visa lottery scam, helping thousands of folks(liberals everywhere) in the IT field, Get-Keep-Get Raises, shutting the door on H1B visas....YEAH
But, you, me and every other taxpayer in the country was still paying for Section 8, SNAP, TANF, WIC, utility assistance, soetero phones, and all sorts of other programs for the very people that got into the country before President Trump was finally able to get a handle on things.
Other than perps, no one was deported for gaming the system. All their kids were allowed to keep and maintain their bogus Birthright Citizenship, forcing us to pay for everything.
All the refugees that were already here, even though there was nothing wrong with their country, were allowed to stay and keep on collecting bennies courtesy of the taxpayer.
I was hoping and praying that by nominating so-called, Constitutional SCOTUS nominees, that he was just biding his time while waiting for RBG to leave(one way or another), so he could get one more pick, one more term and FINALLY put an end to the disgustingly misused Birthright Citizenship clause in the Constitution.
But that didn’t happen and we’re all going to start paying a lot more.
A century of progressives teaching in and running our schools and teachers’ unions?
The Ministry of Education
The Ministry of Propaganda
Because it is so much easier to feel and emote than to think and work.
And that’s the SOP.
One gets in. They hire another one and another one and another one.
Once one of them gets promoted, they promote all the other ones.
Anyone leaning Right either leaves because they can’t take it anymore, goes along to get along til retirement or they’re accused of something and forced out.
The left aren’t liberals anymore. They are globalist authoritarians, doing whatever it takes to enforce their view of conformist consumerism - including using marxists as foot soldiers, until they are ready to clamp down on them. If you can’t identify the enemy properly, you can’t win.
Conservatives work for a living and don’t care to go into government or the institutions. Liberals don’t understand production and the creation of wealth. They like to “help” people so they are drawn to the bureaucracy and to NGOs. and to Academia and to the Press. They believe that they are paid for their sacred value as human beings rather than for what they produce. Conservatives believe that they are paid for their production. Being mostly in government and schools the liberals believe they are smarter than the others and should order the lives of their less intelligent brothers and take their undeserved money for their own selves and projects.
Liberalism is a deception for those who believe that government can do good.
You won’t like the answer:
Because the left wanted change and fought like hell to get it.
The right wanted the status quo and sat on its ass.
Because humans always slouch toward libertine ways.
It’s because the entertainers, the news reporters, and the sports figures all run in the same circles and live in an echo chamber.
The two centers of gravity for this group is New York and Kalifornia, both of which lean far to the Left, therefore if you want to hang out with the cool kids, you have to at least appear to lean Left, too.
Because they won.
