The law is doesn’t matter if girl lies about her age or used fake id. The man is still responsible. LaW should be changed imo.
The plea deal does not mention GaEtz by name. It’s 84 pages.
Matt Gaetz is fighting this. I wish when Conservatives get to DC they would not mess around with young people... we need to go there, get our job done, and retire.... Not hang around for 50 years...
This is probably one of the biggest misconceptions when it comes to cooperating defendants. Oftentimes, the government isn’t counting on the testimony of someone in this kind of circumstance because at the end of the day, how credible (in the eyes of a jury) is a guy going to be who was just convicted of trafficking children? Not very.
Instead, what the government wants is the story. They want the dates, the names, the dollar amounts etc. From there, they’ll uncover the audit trail and it’s that trail that is used to convict the guilty, not necessarily the trial testimony of the cooperating conspirator.
I believe politically-motivated prosecutors regularly suborn perjury.
Remember the Liberal Rules of Truth:
1. Truth is whatever serves the Party.
2. If you repeat something often enough, it becomes true.
3. If the facts contradict the narrative, the facts lie.
And the crack, and apparently child porn.
But it's OK. His daddy is the Resident.
I said they are trying to flip him against Gaetz and anytime before sentencing works.
Guilty already?
If they are having to negotiate a plea agreement with Greene then they don’t have have any actual evidence against Gaetz.
Because they’ve already been through this guy’s financials, phone, email and text records. Shouldn’t they have the testimony of the girl?
I think the “co-operation” is really just making public statements as part of the smear campaign, because if this guy was really so tight with Gaetz then the entanglement in the records would be so clear and obvious they wouldn’t need to make a deal and they would have indicted Gaetz already with the same evidence they indicted this guy with.
The Feds would not go to this trouble unless it was to get Gaetz. They are squeezing this guy, Joel Greenberg, like they squeezed Michael Cohen, Trump’s lawyer. This is a strategy known to work. Make the RAT. Feds 101.
You’re looking at the case purely from the perspective of the sex-crimes angle which is understandable because it’s the most salacious and easiest to prove; the girl (or girls) is either of legal age or isn’t. That’s a slam-dunk particularly if they have a cooperating ‘victim.’
But, Greenberg was up to his eyeballs in public corruption charges. The sex-trafficking really only represented a fraction of his criminal exposure.
It’s interesting that the DoJ division that’s doing this investigation isn’t the trafficking division, but rather, the public corruption people. They’re not trying to tie up the loose ends of the Mann Act violations. They’re trying to see if Gaetz - or anyone else for that matter - played any part in or received any benefit from Greenberg’s abuse of office. That’s what’s taking so long. Public corruption cases take forever.
But wouldn’t the same apply to PC charges? They’ve already been through all Greenberg’s financials and electronic communications. They should have a shit ton of evidence.
This plea agreement stinks and combined with that bizarro attempt to blackmail Gaetz Sr. strikes me as an all hat and no cattle play.
So they will milk it for everything in the court of public opinion, because they don’t have squat to use in actual court where there are rules (not that judges enforce them these days).
Look at the Kwame Kilpatrick investigation. It started no later than 2007 yet Kilpatrick wasn’t indicted until 2010. In the intervening years, the feds had rolled up a number of people in Kilpatrick’s orbit several of whom turned state’s evidence but it still took the feds more than 3-years to put a case together against Kilpatrick. As I said, public corruption cases take forever.
Re: 36 - and that has what to do with Matt Gaetz?
