Speaking of parallel universes, my favorite references to RAH is in the story “The Return of William Proxmire”:

“Admiral Heinlein won’t let the Russians have Spaceships...”

Conjunction Misfunction says: "John Carter of Mars (Barsoom series) was by Edgar Rice Burroughs."

Naturalboobster says: "I think you’re getting your authors mixed up..."

Post #2 - "As in Beast, our intrepid explorers travel to various fictional universes: Burroughs’ Barsoom,"

I was responding to post #2. Didn't read it did ya! Neener neener neener.

He ran for Congress as a socialist!

An came pretty close to winning!

He wrote an excellent guide to political organizing and becoming indespensible to a party...

My favorite of the juvies was “Red Planet”. It was one of the first SF books I read and helped hook me. His best was “The Moon is a Harsh Mistress”. He was definitely socialist and a mocker of Christianity, though, and got really weird in his later years (”Time Enough for Love” is a great book, but the part where Woodie goes back in time and boinks his mom is a stomach turner.)

Heinlein was a socialist only early in life like many of the young and foolish dperession era. His politics like for many evolved over time.

He later became libertarian a very radical libertarian.
I suggest you re-read his books.

This doesn’t sound like a socialist !
“...............
Heinlein claimed to have written Starship Troopers in response to “calls for the unilateral ending of nuclear testing by the United States”. Heinlein suggests in the book that the Bugs are a good example of Communism being something that humans cannot successfully adhere to, since humans are strongly defined individuals, whereas the Bugs, being a collective, can all contribute to the whole without consideration of individual desire.

The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire.--The Notebooks of Lazarus Long

And those who want to control others...and those who want to 'live and let live'...

I have read pretty much all of RAH’s books. Lazarus Long was one of my favorite characters, though it got pretty darn freaky towards the end of it all.

Yep...Heinlein was one of the great aphorists...and one hell of an iconoclast.

“Piper passed away in the 60s.”

I know. I read that an author named Green (I forget which one, there were at least two) and another author were going to collaborate to keep the series going. I guess it didn’t happen.
