TAMPA, Fla. (AP/WFLA) – Norwegian Cruise Lines is threatening to skip Florida ports because of the governor’s order banning businesses from requiring customers be vaccinated against COVID-19.
Norwegian CEO Frank Del Rio says the executive order from Gov. Ron DeSantis’ (R-Florida) banning what he called ‘vaccine passports’ conflicts with federal guidelines that would let cruise ships sail in U.S. waters if passengers and crew members are vaccinated.
Legally, lawyers believe that federal law applies and not state law, but I’m not a lawyer. And we hope that this hasn’t become a legal football or a political football. But at the end of the day, cruise ships have motors, propellers and rudders. And God forbid, we can’t operate in the state of Florida for whatever reason, then there are other states that we do operate from. And we can operate from the Caribbean for ships that otherwise would have gone to Florida. We certainly hope it doesn’t come to that.
“They’re bluffing.”
Don’t bet on it. While Florida is a huge market, they can simply avoid it, at least initially while relatively few are sailing.
As I see it, it’s a no-win for DeSantis. Either he lets them apply their universal vaccine policy (and piss off conservatives) or he very likely loses much, if not all of their business.
And the difference here is that it literally is NON-POLITICAL. The cruise lines want to get running again and not have virus breakouts on board, and they see the vaccine as the way to get there...or at least have deniability if people do get sick.
To me, the best outcome would be for the federal government to say that DeSantis can do whatever he wants on-shore, but when it comes to cruise line operations, that is under federal domain. The question is whether they’ll do that. If they’re smart, they won’t.
For all we know, he and other CEOs are being forced into becoming tools/mouthpieces for the Establishment as a condition for getting cruises back this year.
Why isn’t NCL lobbying Congress to provide WuFlu liability protection fotlr their industry?
Because this is about getting DeSantis.
And NCL is aiding and abetting Deep State.
If I ever book a cruise, it will not be with NCL.
In before the FR “Cruises are great! Can’t wait to get back onboard.” brigade arrives.

Apparently SC might follow DeSantis’s lead.
There are two kinds of people in the world:
Maskless
Faceless
I’m in group number one.
Cruise lines have to play it safe.
Have you ever been on a cruise?
Just how are these Norwegian cruise companies going to stay in business when 75 million Trump voters, who actually do most of the work in this country, decide to boycott them?
If he does then Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Holland America, and all the rest won't be far behind.
People are up in arms when state governments tell Christian bakers that they have to bake a cake for a gay couple. Why should we applaud DeSantis telling cruise lines and air lines and any other business who they have to let provide their services to? A COVID outbreak on a ship would be a disaster to the industry. Requiring vaccinations before boarding is no guarantee that an outbreak won't happen but it is proof that the cruise line did everything they could to prevent it.
They will get a payment for services rendered from Deep State using taxpayer money.
From Article 1, Section 8, the legislative jurisdiction of the federal government:
To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States, and to exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent of the Legislature of the State in which the Same shall be, for the Erection of Forts, Magazines, Arsenals, dock-Yards and other needful Buildings
Is a noro outbreak a disaster?
No.
During a toilet paper shortage?
Yes.
Cruisers put up with noro.
They’ll put up with this.
Between the two, and I’ve had both, I’d rather have WuFlu.
DeSantis should counter that Florida is a botulism free state
And?
Oklahoma is out, too.
It’s a fecal, not fiscal disaster.
It most certainly is political.
It’s common to talk of indoctrination happening at universities, where do the indoctrinated go once they graduate? They get hired.
The indocrinated politicize everything. Everything is political. Norwegian’s CEO Frank J. Del Rio was indoctrinated for four years according to his bio. It’s standard practice in most businesses that you cannot get hired (past low-level jobs) unless you have been indoctrinated in some university. Go take a look at jobs.coca-colacompany.com and marvel at how every last career posting requires it. You can’t get away from the indoctrination if you want to get hired.
“The issue is never the issue. The issue is always the revolution” - David Horowitz quoting SDS literature.
As for losing their business? What’s more important to you? Dying on the hill of your liberty or dying on the hill of the economy? Progressives are forcing us to pick one. I’d rather be free than be rich, personally.
