So, we have a high Covid death toll but amazingly low flu infections and deaths in 2020 and 2021?

I need a scientific explanation for this.

Due to social distancing and other steps we took to "flatten the curve" so to speak, the flu basically went away.

Influenza is a much less robust virus and is droplet spread. Covid is likely or flirted with aerosol spread and much more robust in terms of surviving exposure.

The mitigation for Covid are for an aersolized transmission. So the mitigation factors of social distancing and masks while likely did little for aerosol transfer of the virus work very well for droplets and influenza. Ergo there is much less influenza.
