Still, quite striking difference. One of the John Hopkins models did pretty good though.
The percentage of 65+ being hospitalized continues the trend that began in late March of being lower than the younger age groups except for under 18. I would expect this to flatten out or reverse as more of the 18-49 demo become fully vaccinated.

Still no signs advertising COVID-19 vaccinations at the nearest Walmart. Only flu vaccination signs. And COVID-19 vaccinations by appointment. A pharmacy employee there reported many appointment no-shows.
I did a quick search to find out who was behind the anti-vaccination campaigns. It appears that Andrew Wakefield, Robert Kennedy Jr., Larry Cook and Bernard and Lisa Selz were behind much of it for pecuniary purposes. Followers recruited to help appear to be mostly “wellness” advocates (new age, vegetarians, eastern meditation, etc.) speaking from both the political left and right. Socially, most of them are on the left but with some charismatic religion thrown in. Most of them are women, and many of them are younger.
We could 'follow the money' and figure out that Bill Gates, George Soros etc. fund the CDC through the CDC foundation.
FWIW, India just had it’s worst day (new cases, new fatalities.) At least the cases show some slowing of the rate of increase.

If this keeps up I’ll have to change my disinclination towards vaxxing the young. and maybe my opinion about second shots (after all, about 2/3 of people haven’t “wild” immunity).
The actuals compared to the models, indicates to me that this last wave peaked earlier than most of the models predicted, so we should hit the steep decline part of the curve sooner.
I guess that the reason is that there is more widespread natural immunity than they assume in the models.

Dr. Makary of John Hopkins published an OpEd in the Wall Street Journal, where he prdicted herd immunity manifesting around the end of April. maybe that is his group's model, that fits the actual curve better. He estimated natural exposures around 150-180 million.

It takes about 8-10 days after the first shot, for resistance to COVID-19 to develop, but it is strong protection after that.
Not only does it protect you, but it is a service to others, for you to remove yourself as a breeding ground, or vector to carry the disease to others, whose lives might be vulnerable.
Faster spreading variants also means getting to herd immunity quicker.
