I am conflicted over capital punishment. It is still the taking of a life, even if it is a “low life”.

If there is ZERO doubt of guilt, not JUST a confession, I can go along with it.

The manner of execution troubles me also. Lethal injection seems too complicated and doesn’t always go as planned. (I’ve seen this problem a lot on TV).

Hanging again has its own problems. The breaking of the neck is supposed to be the manor of death, but sometimes the neck doesn’t break and then strangulation ends up being the manor of death. (I’ve also seen this multiple times on TV) Not pleasant.

Electrocution, do they still do that? (”Old Sparky”). Sometimes that doesn’t work as intended and they have to do it several times or increase the juice, not pretty. (I’ve also seen this multiple times on TV).

The gas chamber! This seems cruel and unusual to me. “The gas is visible to the condemned, who is advised to take several deep breaths to speed unconsciousness.”

Bullet to the brain seems quickest/cheapest/instant/reliable. I vote for that.

Back in the 1970s, they outlawed the practice so those who had X number of years on death row were let out of prison. Many immediately went out and murdered more people.

What do you mean you’ve “seen this problem a lot on TV”? Where are you watching live executions on television? Are you possibly confusing reality with a crime drama?

The original manner of death by hanging was strangulation. That’s why the sentence was “hang by the neck until dead,” (see also “Tyburn Jig.” The neck-break thing is relatively recent.
