For those of you (which is probably most of you) who don't know it, I live in Spain. There are cheap flights all over Europe, including Rome. Our airport, third busiest in Spain, is dead. The only people flying anywhere are people like my former house cleaner, who is leaving for her native France on Friday because she can't find enough work to stay in Spain. Most countries are closed for tourism.
I live in a seaside resort and every major hotel is closed and have been closed all winter and spring. Some will re-evaluate after Spain reopens for tourism on 16 May and one has already indicated it will close permanently. People in Rome must be feeling a lot more optimistic than folks around here.
