“Send the Kardashians over there...”

Oh hell no!
I like the English too much to do that to them.

I’m sure Harry and his Grifter wife love hearing this news.
The Crown will survive.
The Grifters will divorce.

I would never refer to the Queen or Philip as a parasite.

They are going to send the whole royalty to be sitiated at one end of the London Bridge in Lake Havasu, AZ.
Then it will be A Bridge To Farce.

I have nothing really against the royal family, but it is a bit silly. When it comes down to it, what’s the point? Tourism? They serve no real purpose.

Yep. Like the article pointed out, Queen Elizabeth II is probably the last person to believe in the institution. Rest of them are a bunch of rich people pretending they're better than the common folks.

Well, what I was going for was the fact that the peerage would do ANYTHING to save their titles, even if the only POSSIBLE solution was to crown Queen Meghan.

Guess I should have tagged it. /SARC

"I don’t know much about the Royal family and dukes and earls and all.of that. However, nowadays aren’t they mere figureheads, with no real authority?"

The House of Lords still has some hereditary seats, which actually play a role in governance, but apart from that, the titles are generally property to be passed along as part of an inheritance.

There is no reason for the monarchy to exist. Yeah, nice to see the ceremony, but everyone knows the Prime Minister is the power.

ARTHUR: Old woman!
DENNIS: Man!
ARTHUR: Man. Sorry. What knight lives in that castle over there?
DENNIS: I'm thirty-seven.
ARTHUR: I-- what?
DENNIS: I'm thirty-seven. I'm not old.
ARTHUR: Well, I can't just call you 'Man'.
DENNIS: Well, you could say 'Dennis'.
ARTHUR: Well, I didn't know you were called 'Dennis'.
DENNIS: Well, you didn't bother to find out, did you?
ARTHUR: I did say 'sorry' about the 'old woman', but from the behind you looked--
DENNIS: What I object to is that you automatically treat me like an inferior!
ARTHUR: Well, I am King!
DENNIS: Oh, King, eh, very nice. And how d'you get that, eh? By exploiting the workers! By 'anging on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society. If there's ever going to be any progress with the--
WOMAN: Dennis, there's some lovely filth down here. Oh! How d'you do?
ARTHUR: How do you do, good lady? I am Arthur, King of the Britons. Who's castle is that?
WOMAN: King of the who?
ARTHUR: The Britons.
WOMAN: Who are the Britons?
ARTHUR: Well, we all are. We are all Britons, and I am your king.
WOMAN: I didn't know we had a king. I thought we were an autonomous collective.
DENNIS: You're fooling yourself. We're living in a dictatorship: a self-perpetuating autocracy in which the working classes--
WOMAN: Oh, there you go bringing class into it again.
DENNIS: That's what it's all about. If only people would hear of--
ARTHUR: Please! Please, good people. I am in haste. Who lives in that castle?
WOMAN: No one lives there.
ARTHUR: Then who is your lord?
WOMAN: We don't have a lord.
ARTHUR: What?
DENNIS: I told you. We're an anarcho-syndicalist commune. We take it in turns to act as a sort of executive officer for the week,...
ARTHUR: Yes.
DENNIS: ...but all the decisions of that officer have to be ratified at a special bi-weekly meeting...
ARTHUR: Yes, I see.
DENNIS: ...by a simple majority in the case of purely internal affairs,...
ARTHUR: Be quiet!
DENNIS: ...but by a two-thirds majority in the case of more major--
ARTHUR: Be quiet! I order you to be quiet!
WOMAN: Order, eh? Who does he think he is? Heh.
ARTHUR: I am your king!
WOMAN: Well, I didn't vote for you.
ARTHUR: You don't vote for kings.
WOMAN: Well, how did you become King, then?
ARTHUR: The Lady of the Lake,...
[angels sing] ...her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite, held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water signifying by Divine Providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. [singing stops]
That is why I am your king!
DENNIS: Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.
ARTHUR: Be quiet!
DENNIS: Well, but you can't expect to wield supreme executive power just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you!
ARTHUR: Shut up!
DENNIS: I mean, if I went 'round saying I was an emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!
ARTHUR: Shut up, will you? Shut up!
DENNIS: Ah, now we see the violence inherent in the system.
ARTHUR: Shut up!
DENNIS: Oh! Come and see the violence inherent in the system! Help! Help! I'm being repressed!
ARTHUR: Bloody peasant!
DENNIS: Oh, what a give-away. Did you hear that? Did you hear that, eh? That's what I'm on about. Did you see him repressing me? You saw it, didn't you?

It’s been around more than a thousand years. Of course, it has changed quite a bit from the days of warrior kings like William the Conqueror. But that change is just a sign of the durability of the institution. They might change again, and even the House of Windsor may end, but the monarchy is going nowhere, unless there is a catastrophe of epic proportion around the world.

Oh I don’t know... The Windsors have a genius for one thing: maintaining throne-bum contact. The British Monarchy could go on for another 1,000 years or so.

Tourism is exactly their purpose, they bring in huge tourist dollars annually. The tourist industry of the UK is pretty much all centered around it's history and the royal family is at the center of that. If the royals and nobility go away the links to the past go with them and that history becomes a lot less interesting to a lot of people. UK tourism dollars would take a huge hit. Not many people visit the UK for beaches and great weather.

Yank her title. She obviously has no clue about Elizabeth. Elizabeth, from day one, has always swore to serve the UK her entire life. The end. Period.

One person’s opinion FWIW.... If the monarchy can get through Charles or even better, skip him, I think it will be fine.

Is it the Royals feeding off everyone else or everyone else feeding off them?

Tourist dollars don’t lie. Nearly every business in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland would lose money brought in by tourists. Visiting castle ruins and kissing the Blarney Stone is one thing but the Royals are the big show.

Charity dollars don’t lie. Have the Royals mention a charity and the little people throw money at it. Just look at MEgan and Harry starting their charities. Harry had the hugely popular Invictus Games before Meghan.

Hundreds of British businesses do all they can to keep their royal seal of honor due to the status and the money it brings in.

William’s little Charlotte brings millions to the fashion industry. Let her wear a new outfit and moms rush out to buy the same for their little darling. Seriously, she’s the biggest money maker for this.

Hundreds of journalists would be out of work if it weren’t for the Royals.

Thousands in the service industries would be out of work.
