Sadly he won’t get the message. He excuses the scene as being done by ‘only a few people. He thinks he’s still liked generally. That is how out of touch with reality he is. Next he will be saying ‘please clap’
No, it's much worse than that. He's not blind, and he knows how unpopular he is within his party's base. He figures that Trump's appeal will fail over time, and then he'll be the party's best hope. Why does he think that? First because he knows the GOPe will do everything possible to make it so, and second because he figures there is really nothing the Trunp-supporting base can do to stop it.
