Yes, but this explains why the Trump and other endorsements didn’t enable Mrs. Wright to break away from the rest of the field. There are good voters with valid concerns about the baggage the Wright name carries and as far as I am aware, she has not addressed them. Note: I am not in that district so I have no dog in the race for that seat.

See my prior posts above - the Wright name has some unfortunate baggage, so there wasn’t a consensus strongest candidate here.

For a 23 candidate gang fight I'm amazed she did as well as she did under the circumstances frankly. At least the bonafide 'rats got locked out and are a non factor. On to the next showdown - maybe they can get DJT to weigh in more next time around.

Thanks for your insight.

Just glad that it appears the GOP secured both of the top two spots for the runoff.

” At least the bonafide ‘rats got locked out and are a non factor.”

Except that rats will be able to vote in the run-off. Which of the two Republicans are they more likely to vote for?

How did Wright place, then, with DJT's support?

I've been trying to stress it for years now that primaries have so few voters that just a few dozen people can swing a primary one way or another.

That is how AOC unseated a long term incumbent.

I suspect that neither Republican is the more likely recipient of Democrat votes at current. So a coin toss or they stay home. -shrug-

From an e-mail from Susan Wright:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 1, 2021 Media Contact: Matt Langston

Susan Wright Places First in Special Election, Advances to Runoff

Arlington, TX — In the May 1st special election to succeed the late Rep. Ron Wright, Susan Wright (R) holds a commanding first-place lead over her 22 other opponents.

Trump-endorsed Wright will likely advance to a runoff election with State Representative Jake Ellzey (R), who has accepted campaign money from Never Trumper Bill Kristol.

According to results from the Texas Secretary of State, as of 11:42pm CT with 100% of the vote reporting, Susan is in first place with 15,052 votes (19.2%), followed by Jake Ellzey (R) with 10,851 votes (13.8%), Jana Lynne Sanchez (D) with 10,497 votes (13.4%), and Brian Harrison with 8,476 votes (10.8%).

Susan won 15.73% of the Early/Absentee Vote compared to 23.93% of the Election Day Vote, indicating significant momentum for Susan in the final week of the campaign - when she was endorsed by President Trump, the Club for Growth, and Susan B. Anthony List. By comparison, Ellzey received 15.71% of the Early/Absentee Vote and 11.30% of the Election Day Vote.

Susan Wright released the following statement: "I can't tell you how honored I am to be the first-place finisher in this special election to succeed my husband Ron. From the beginning, this has been a grassroots campaign -- and I've been so encouraged at the hundreds of endorsements I've picked up across TX-06, culminating with an amazing endorsement from President Trump this past week. I'm looking forward to making my case to voters in the runoff, winning, and representing the 6th District with the true conservative leadership they deserve."

Actually......Susan Wrights “ handlers” sent out a disgusting flier accusing Ellzey of being for amnesty, open borders & all kinds of garbage. I don’t trust her. Why is she even qualified to fill such an important seat? It was her husband who people voted for. I just never did like this idea of a spouse filling the seat of a deceased spouse “just because”....a sympathy vote?? Makes no sense to me

Appreciate your informative post. Thank you.

Hopefully, Wright will prove herself worthy of President Trump’s endorsement.
