Wood, the openly anti-Trump candidate, came in 9th with all of 3 percent of the vote. This is after getting pumped up by the “press” as the spokesthing for the new non-Trump Republican Party and meeting with Mr. Texan, GW Bush, and also getting the endorsement of Adam Kinzinger!

Wright’s husband got 179k in November and she could only pull 13k votes, with Trump’s endorsement?

She just be a mediocre candidate. If Dems show up for the RINO she’ll lose the runoff.

Yep. I’m happy to see everything Kinzinger touches turn to excrement… to match his soul.

It’s a special election. Comparing raw numbers to a presidential general election is like comparing a cheese wheel with the moon.

13k is an extremely low number regardless. Mike Garcia got 37k in a multi-candidate special in CA-25 last year. She had good name recognition as the widow and Trump’s endorsed candidate.

There were 23 candidates in the race. The GOP locked out the Rats.

“Except I was hoping Ellzey wouldn’t make the runoff. Best I can tell, he’s clearly a RINO favorite.”

Understand the concern, but I see it as an opportunity for Trump. If he shows up there for a rally or two, and Susan kicks butt in the runoff, then literally EVERY Republican officeholder and candidate will have to take him very seriously.

Not for a lack of us telling them. We’ve got people here who staunchly believe that the US military is an invincible apolitical force that can beat anyone anywhere any time even if we only have toothpicks and they have modern bullpup rifles.

That would be an IDEAL outcome. When is the runoff?

Worth mentioning that Ron Wright was more than a bit of a jackass in life. I don’t know what his wife is like, but Wright was not inclined to listen to his constituents in his other elected offices, and I doubt he changed when he got elected to the House.

Well, jackass or not, he's gone and we have the here & now to deal with this time forward.

With 94% in, Wright has just over 19% to lead the field.
NeverTrumper Ellzey has a little under 14%, with former Trump official Harrison garnering a bit shy of 11%.

The top two RATS have about 14%.

Hopefully, the low turnout will help Wright going forward in the runoff, with her reaching out to Harrison supporters and mitigating Ellzey’s influence.

Really is a drag how the GOP is constantly engaged in runoffs in these Southern contests. Need to rally around the consensus strongest candidate(s) earlier.

Hope you’re right about Ellzey.

Had just caught a glimpse of the returns tonight on MSNBC and that’s how they characterized him.

Note to self: Don’t believe anything from that channel.

However, I just did a couple searches, one of which mentioned how Bill Kristol had donated to Ellzey.

Will now just take your word for it and give him the benefit of any lingering doubt. Hope that Ellzey, Wright and Harrison, etc. will all join forces to win the runoff.

Finally, I understand a California-type rule applies to this runoff that backfires on the RATS where the top two vote-getters face each other in the runoff. In this case, that means Ellzey is pitted against Wright.
