“In John Douglas’ book Mind Hunter”

Great book, it saved my daughter in laws life. I read the book and loved it, we were out to dinner with our son and his wife, they had just been married. I related several tips Douglas gave to readers, about being prepared, it was fascinating and we all talked about it. I related the part where he advises that if you are in a kidnap or carjacking, be prepared to die where you are in public, fight, scream right where you are, your chances are better there than in the woods. A week later our DIL was at a LOWES, she had a cart full of garden stuff and loaded it her trunk. She was driving a convertible and got ready to take the cart to a cart slot. This young nicely dressed black man, said, “let me take that for you and reached for the cart. She thanked him and got in her car, he swung around ,jumped in the passenger side and told her to DRIVE. She backed out and turned the car facing the front of the store. She got close and started calling for help, prepared to drive the car into the store front. a cart boy heard her (she thought she was screaming but the rescuer said he barely heard her). He immediately jumped in the car to help and the guy pulled a gun, at which the cart boy jumped out. But all were safe. The man took off in the car, got on the freeway (Columbus, Oh). Police had sent cars, helicopters etc. the guy wrecked the car about five miles away, got out, ran and hid in bushes. The cops felt they had him surrounded but he doubled back, got into an empty, engine running cop car and took off again. He wrecked it several miles away and was seriously injured.

Our DIL, said she was terrified, thought it was a joke or something at first, but the one thing that came to her mind was the conversation we had about being prepared to die where you are. Thank you John Douglas. (The cart boy got a city commendation for his bravery).
