Covid: More than 20 million living in areas with zero deaths

About 22 million people in the UK are living in areas that have not reported any Covid-19 deaths that happened in April, according to BBC News analysis.

By comparison, in a four-week period during January's peak, fewer than 50,000 people lived in such places.

The lack of COVID deaths during April in the UK is astounding. Remember, in the UK we measure a COVID death as being "died within 28 days of catching COVID" rather than dying of COVID. Our excess death figures are the only useful measure at this time.

So why are these impressive numbers - or lack of deaths - occurring? Is it:

1-the most vulnerable passed during the past two waves? 2-the vaccine is preventing deaths - 95%+ of over 60's took it. 3-our lockdowns reduce infection vectors - even for those vaccinated

All three probably. But as far as Europe goes, there seems to be no stopping the UK now as its plans to return to normal continue apace.

All 3 probably. The most susceptible hosts are either dead or immune one way or the other and the mitigation factors certainly help, especially with the susceptible hosts. One of the biggest things we did to decrease deaths was to lock down the nursing homes and other healthcare facilities that were filled with the especially vulnerable hosts and then the vaccine of course. I think Covid will just find a way to infect younger people now though. I would bet money on that. It will adapt. It doesn’t want to kill them though, it just needs to use them to make copies of itself. As it’s usual host source gains immunity or otherwise disappears, natural selection will prevail and it will adapt itself to younger hosts that haven’t been vaccinated.

All three probably - but the one that distinguishes the UK from so many other Nations where the disease is enjoying a new wave, is the vaccine.

The UK is one of the leading Nations in vaccination. Among the top few, some Nations (UAE) had to rely on the less effective Chinese Sinovac.

The combination of the widespread uptake of an highly effective (AstraZeneca) vaccine, has made the UK second probably only to Israel, in the effect that vaccination has had on the disease.

There is a vocal, and hostile, handful of anti-vaccine activists on this forum, who will probably chime in, with a bunch of fringe conspiracy theory posts, and invective against anyone who says anything in support of the vaccines. It would help if he began using language accurately. The shots are not vaccines but are an experimental drug therapy.

Until there is a free and open debate about them in public, they are being used as a political rather than medical tool.

I’ve noticed historically two subjects which have very deeply held views either side of the pond (abortion and vaccination), but the discussion is much more vocal in the US. We have a tendency in the UK to hide our true views.

That said, it looks like the percentage take-up of the COVID vaccines is similar in the UK and US - about 70% overall [source: https://ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations]

If you kill the vulnerable and achieve herd immunity, zero deaths is the expected result.

A lot more people in the UK got Covid than the official numbers. Lots of people got it early last year.

Idris Elba was likely “Patient Zero” in New Mexico in early March 2020 when he brought the virus over from London for a movie shoot in Santa Fe.

If there’s not a place on this forum for sounding the alarms about government- and big-corporate-manufactured propagandized groupthink, what do you think this forum is good for?

We all agree that vaccines will save lives. However, the downward trend in Deaths started weeks before vaccines hit.

But I think we’d all agree that all is well, if these never happen:
* vaccine passports and mandates
* long-term vaccine side effects (especially mass cytokine storm deaths)
* Big Pharma profiting off fears about a low-impact disease on the healthy, through unending periodic boosters
* continued development and testing on aborted fetal cell lines on new drugs

From speaking with friends in the UK, I suspect it will be years before the trauma recedes. There’s a strong anxiety bred from a year and a half of fear pouring from the TV and every government agency.

One friend has a computer problem that has kept her from video chatting with family for over a year, but there’s no available shop or service that will help - they either don’t do house calls anymore or refuse to take the items without decontamination. No sharing the lift with a neighbor, no gatherings in the lounge, and if you meet someone in the hallway one of you must duck back inside - no passing each other.

I’d been hoping to visit later this year but I’m being waved off. The social damage will take years, if ever, to repair.

Yes, besides the fact that a virus cannot be 'slowed' or 'stopped', and that the fatality rate for <50 is half that for motor vehicle crashes (or THE SAME, if one uses the primary/biased column of CDC data).

i.e., ZERO justification for lockdowns AND mass exposure of over half the population to a medical experiment.

I’m from the UK - have plenty of family there still. It is very interesting to note the difference in mindset toward this problem. They are *hyper* scared, to the point of “why even go outside??!?!”.
