We did the same and had our grass removed in our back yard and replaced with lawn carpet and gravel paths.

I looked into “lawn carpet” but we have too many trees that lose their leaves in the Fall which means I would have to rake and dispose of them. Now I only have to use a leaf blower to clear the gravel walk way and leave the leaves to become part of the landscape.

We have lots of birds that enjoy the wild environment of our yard and we have four feral cats that keep the yard free from mice and rats (although the occasional raccoon proves more then they can handle.)

Our outside carpet is not that big.

Once a week our yard guy blows off the leaves and puts them in the brown recycle container.

Then, once or twice a week I use my rechargeable Makita blower to clear the deck by the outside carpet and the outside carpet.

Our outside carpet is small in area covered and protected.

About 200 yards away a neighbor with more money than most of put in about half a football field of carpet by a busy street.

Besides the leaf and other stuff you noted, that area got hotter than hell with sun on it the whole day. They removed it and put solar stuff where it was.
