Still, these protesters bug the crap out of me. Why is such an insult worthy of destroying someone's life and profession? That if (granted this is speculation) the offender had been doing a good job up to that point? It seems to me that something along the lines of a public apology (on camera, "live"), a 1 year 10% pay cut, with the proceeds to go to a "community charity" selected by, say, local black pastors, would get the point across.
Failing that, I'd say the old sea captains had a better idea. Flog the young lady coach, not over 10 lashes, and let her get back to work in a week.

Good Lord, a lot of the black kids surely say worse stuff about the white kids and teachers all the time...

Some of the FASTEST athletes in the world (and very cool people, if the few that I know from there are representative), hard to see what’s so ‘insulting’ about the comment.
The African did decide to run barefoot for one thing.
And the coach should have known by now to just be a good Soviet citizen. Offer no opinion, keep rosters, fire the starting gun, record their times, hold the clip board, blow whistle, don’t worry about “coaching”, collect paycheck.

I’ve got two kids (18 and 14) and I’ve noticed coaches seem to forget, everything and I mean EVERYTHING that comes out of your mouth the kids will tell their parents. From bad talking players, to bad talking other coaches, or other programs.
It will come out. You are not having private conversations. Not necessarily about race, but most importantly the coaches attitude and coaching style (coaching through fear) does NOT work for young athletes.
