Astronaut Michael Collins, one of the three members of the successful Apollo 11 mission to the moon in 1969, died Wednesday after battling cancer, his family said in a statement posted to Twitter. He was 90.

What a wonderful memory. I always look up when I hear aircraft. I never get tired of it. Thank you for sharing and “Keep looking up!”
Now as well.
People don’t always go to the moon, but when they do, they are awesome and objectively better than you.
The Apollo program was the pinnacle of American greatness.
“I know a lot of that is political...”
A lot is genetic, and a lot is family culture.
That’s a great memory. Good storytelling too.
I love Trump and agree that we foolishly allowed his presidency to be stolen from us, but, no, I can’t say that 2017-2021 was peak America. In my opinion, peak America was World War I to the moon landing. That was the golden era when the U.S.A. ruled the world politically, economically and culturally. It was a country that did big things in a big way (e.g., the Golden Gate Bridge, the Manhattan Project, old Hollywood blockbusters, etc.). This country is now a race-obsessed cultural sewer of abortion, LGBT and wokeness. Donald Trump rightfully recognized that it was necessary to Make America Great AGAIN. If he had been given his rightful chance, he was putting us on the road to getting back to genuine greatness, but we were far from there. The forces arrayed against him and us (i.e., the Deep State, the Dem/Media establishment as well as the RINO sell-outs) proved too powerful to let Trump do what he needed to do.
What pandemic? :-)
“I sure hope Artemis works out.”
It won’t. The dems will scratch that budget line item.
But SpaceX will have the hardware to go there without the BS, for less, and it will be sooner.
Hong Kong Flu
SLS/Orion are the soonest way to get to the Gateway. If Starship has to do the full trip, I dunno how they can and might be better off with just Mars.
I’m really hoping the damn dems don’t stop the moon stuff
Astronauts did die.
Yeah, wasn’t a scare at all back then.
All in less than a year... amazing.
God rest your soul Mr. Collins.
“I can’t say that 2017-2021 was peak America. In my opinion, peak America was World War I to the moon landing. That was the golden era when the U.S.A. ruled the world politically, economically and culturally”
I can’t argue with that.
Great memory. Thanks.
The SLS and Orion won’t be ready for five years.
If they want to get to the Moon in 2024, it will be all SpaceX. The cheapest, safest, fastest way to get to the Moon.
I think they will launch the SLS once, just to prove it works, sort of like Howard Hughes flew the Spruce Goose once. Then they will cancel it and the Orion.
Peak America was just before they levied the income tax.
I also like telling my women friends that I want to live on the Moon before I die. When they ask why I say:
“There’s never been women there.”
