My I ask why? My husband and I are looking into a summer vacay for us and our 12 year old daughter. We live in SC and my daughter even said “Please, no Myrtle Beach”, lets go somewhere nice with mountains. We are looking into NC, TN, and even a possible road trip to the parks in Utah.
Live in western Colorado just returned from a trip to St. George, Utah. One of my favorite portions of I-70 (I've driven every mile of it over the years) is Glenwood Canyon in Colorado & I-70 west of Green River to where it merges with I-15 (160 miles). Fairly remote area with 90 mile stretches without any services. The National Parks in southern Utah are spectacular but many of them are overcrowded during the tourist season.
Mt Rushmore is a must see. Also, 12 year old would love looking for treasure at Crater of the Diamonds in Arkansas. Lower Missouri is also beautiful.
Go to the White mountains of New Hampshire or even better the super tranquil Green Mountains of Vermont.
The Maine coast is also VERY nice...
split the trip up...3 nights in the White Mountains and 4 nights on the amazing Maine coast.
not that long a drive at all..
Do i even have to answer WHY?
Vacations are special you don’t want it ruined..
a.). A cabin or B & B in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. Day trips along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
b.). Maritime Museum at Bath, Maine with a coastal stay nearby.
c.). Camping at YMCA of the Rockies after driving through Rocky Mountain Nat’l Park. (Acclimate yourself to elevation with two days in Estes Park prior to the drive to elevation). Visit Winter Park while at the YMCA campground.
d.). Canoe the Current River from Akers Ferry, MO
Miss Eddie,
I have been to Blowing Rock, NC several times. It is up on the Blue Ridge Parkway about 1 1/2 hours NW of Charlotte.
That whole are over to Banner Elk is very nice, IMHO.
Boone is a college town, but most of the kids go home in the summer.
It is actually one of the places I would consider to retire to. When it is 95 and oppressive in Charlotte. It is 75 in Blowing Rock.
FYI, I live in southern NH. The mountains of NH, ME & VT are also very nice in the summer.
