More than 230 cops have either retired or resigned from the Louisville Metro Police Department in the last 16 months as a spokesperson for its union says that staffing shortages have left the agency in ‘dire straits’ while violent crime rises.
The Kentucky city’s police department has been in turmoil since the March 2020 police-involved shooting of Breonna Taylor, the 26-year-old black EMT who was fatally shot in her home by officers executing a no-knock search warrant.
According to statistics provided by the LMPD on Tuesday, the department has seen about 190 officers leave last year and 43 depart so far this year.

Simple Solution: Hire more convicted murderers and rapists. These people are disproportionally minority. This would not only solve the recruitment problem it would also eliminate any charges of discrimination in hiring.
If this were a ‘business’ in dire need of employees...you’d eventually relax standards and lessen requirements.
Wouldn’t shock me if you started to accept violence-prone folks who quickly over-react, and trigger even more chaos. You might even reach a stage where non-Americans are accepted (with a visa)...out of Brazil or Columbia or Mexico....to fill the vacant positions.
This murderous crime is a war against the social fabric of law and order. It has ceased to be criminal conduct. It is now terrorism. Time to treat it as such.

As crazy as the idea of “Defund the Police” is, the reality is that it’s happening...
Police Departments in a number of major cities are severely understaffed from retirements and resignations with no new recruits in the pipeline....
The other reality is cities will lower the standards and put a lower quality person who is poorly trained on the streets which will make the situation worse....
The problems there are because the west end has steadily marched into downtown. And these feral amish are doing what they always do, viz. chaos, crime and catastrophe.
There is no fixing the problem until we admit what the problem really is. But we can't do that because we're terrified of being accused of racism.

Absolutely. While it’s satisfying in the short term to see those who want it suffer(and hopefully be the actual victims of the crime increase) in the long run it just leads to supplanting the local police with a federal force,or the military, which will be bad for us all.

There is another problem attached to the LEO retirements.
IF many are retiring early, the Pension Funds are getting hit hard.
Actuarial people set up such funds with municipalities based on usual retirement records.
This will push those budgets out of kilter AGAIN...meaning they will beg the FEDS for bailouts...
