When I smoked, it was never menthol. That stuff tasted gross. In fact, when I decided to quit, I bought a pack of menthol so that when the cravings became too strong and I felt I had to light up, it was menthol that would quickly put me off. I quit in October, 1989, and have never had a relapse.

50+ years ago, when as a young Airman and a smoker, I would never even bum a menthol. (I preferred Marlboros, Winstons, and Camels.) Shortly after returning to civvie life, I was able to quit for good. That was 1971, 50 years ago.

Since menthol cigs are more addictive, I wonder if I would have been as successful if I were hooked on those.
