Nearly half of all Republicans questioned in a new poll said that they believe former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was wrongly convicted of murdering George Floyd.

A total of 46 percent of respondents to the CBS News-YouGov poll who identified as Republican said the Hennepin County jury reached the "wrong verdict." Only 10 percent of Democrats said the same thing.

Among all respondents, 75 percent said the jury reached the right verdict, while 25 percent said it did not.

The 25 percent of Americans who said they believe the jury reached the wrong verdict also said they strongly disagree with the ideas of the Black Lives Matter movement, CBS News noted.

Chauvin was found guilty on all three counts he faced following Floyd's death last summer, including second-degree murder. He faces more than 40 years in prison following his conviction.

The case was widely considered a referendum on police brutality and systemic racism in law enforcement. Chauvin's conviction is seen as a milestone victory for the social justice movement in America, and Democratic lawmakers hope his conviction will spur momentum on efforts to pass comprehensive police reforms.

Overall, 60 percent of Americans in the CBS News poll indicated they approve of President Biden's handling of Floyd's murder and Chauvin's conviction.

“We can’t leave this moment or look away thinking our work is done,” Biden said the day Chauvin was convicted. “We have to listen. ‘I can’t breathe. I can’t breathe.’ Those were George Floyd’s last words. We can’t let those words die with him.”

The CBS News survey was conducted by YouGov among 2,527 residents in the U.S. interviewed between April 21 and April 24. The margin of error of is 2.3 percentage points.

The verdict should be seen as a frightening instance of mob influence on a jury. Not allowing a venue change and lack of jury sequestration by the trial judge was absurd.

I was shocked that it wasn’t moved and the jury wasn’t sequestered.

A guilty verdict was assured to avoid a riot.

More blacks will die at the hands of blacks, like the girl with the knife. No cop with a brain of any color will rush to any violent scene in a black neighborhood. Let it rip and get body bags.

Anyone who “identifies with” anything is wrong.

"Chauvin was found guilty on all three counts he faced following Floyd's death last summer, including second-degree murder."

Before I will get involved with anyone's opinion regarding the verdict, I want to know how much of the trial that they watched.

If I had not watched a majority of the trial, I would have said, he is guilty of at least manslaughter.

After watching the evidence presented, I said before that Chauvin is not guilty of all charges.

St. george killed himself.

I watched voir dire of 3 jurors. It was then that I knew Chauvin was going to be convicted. They lied about how impartial they could be in the case. One seemed too eager to sit on the jury, as if fame, tv, and a kiss-and-tell book would come out after the trial. White demonkkrap women - you don’t want them on a jury for anything - very unstable. The white demonkkrap men are almost as bad - can’t trust them.

Sequestering would have only caused the Chauvin to return their verdict in 10 minutes after receiving the charge. Guilty on all counts - yeh ... right ...

The case should never have gone to trial. This is a travesty.

What amazed me was how Rush went overboard on this case. Then again, he was ill at the time. Nine-and-a-half minutes was too long a hold and that film footage convicted Chauvin. However...the canonization of a drug-using convict is more dangerous than Chauvin. It is his name that will hang over cops just trying to do their jobs.

And how did George Floyd get a Mercedes SUV to begin with?
