Cremation is the norm for Hindus.

Local burning is also a common practice to dispose of garbage. I don’t mean in any way to be disrespectful of the dead or their grieving families by pointing this out.

Norms are different there. It is not as much of a leap for at-home cremations, especially under lockdown/quarantine.
