Some Democrats Push for Permanent Expansion of Unemployment Benefits
Wall Street Journal ^ | April 23, 2021 | Andrew Duehren and Andrew Restuccia

WASHINGTON—Democrats on Capitol Hill are pushing for the White House to propose more generous and long-lasting jobless benefits on a permanent basis as part of the antipoverty package President Biden is expected to roll out next week.

In a letter sent to the White House Friday, nearly 40 Democrats said President Biden should propose implementing a series of new federal standards of unemployment insurance programs, which are largely run by states. They proposed increasing the amount of jobless payments, extending the duration of the weekly benefit, expanding the pool of eligible workers, and implementing a system that would more closely tie the payments to economic conditions.

Since the Covid-19 pandemic began, Congress has taken several temporary measures to bolster jobless payments, including increasing weekly payments and offering support to more workers. Most recently Congress extended a $300 weekly supplement until early September, among other steps.

But the lawmakers are seeking more permanent changes to the social -safety net program.

“The Cares Act’s emergency programs must be extended to support jobless workers for the duration of the current economic downturn, but we must also fix the underlying problems facing our [unemployment insurance] system so that it can provide economic security for all workers,” they wrote in the letter, referencing the $2.2 trillion Cares Act passed last year that first added a federal supplement.

The White House has been studying possible unemployment insurance changes, according to a person familiar with the matter, and Democrats on Capitol Hill have been discussing the issue with the administration. But it isn’t known if the White House will address the issue in their coming plan, which is expected to be released next week and includes more than $1 trillion in funding for paid leave, tuition-free community college, and universal prekindergarten.

I was going to say you are on to something if we could replace Rat Reps and Senators with robots. But looks to me like they already behave, and vote, like robots . . . nasty and foul-mouthed they are, but pretty much like robots programed by Nanchi and Chuckie.

The main advantage of an empty chair is that an empty chair does not draw a paycheck. Or send naughty pictures of themselves to teenage girls. Or try to affect jury decisions.

I’m in and all for it.

Consider it payback for the Cheap Indian and Mexican Labor Express much loved by all politicians - Democrat and Republican - with perhaps the sole exception being Donald Trump.

Until all H1B, OPTs. H4EADs, L1s and other work visas cancelled and the programs are eliminated and the foreigners sent home.

Skilled white-collar labor in the USA is being increasingly owned by Indians, just as skilled blue-collar labor is being increasingly owned by Mexicans

Can Americans survive on what’s left? Unskilled blue- and white- collar work at near minimum wage?

Lock the border. End illegal and legal immigration. Then no need for any unemployment benefits as there will be plenty of jobs for all that want them.

With no jobs except the near-minimum wage blue-collar jobs available in most parts of the country, what will you do instead? Will you go work a part-time fast-food job?

I have a nephew who was a computer draftsman. He is now on unemployment and finds it more attractive.
————————
So I’m guessing his email inbox and phone is being spammed all day with Indian recruiters with jobs no where near his qualifications just so he can reply, get instantly rejected and the Indian recruiter can then file a LCA to bring in an H1B Indian?

Just got one from an Indian recruiter for a certified fire alarm inspector. Ok, I do some Software Test Engineering. I guess he seen the word “Test” on my resume.

That’s a big point. There are basically no middle or low end jobs cause of illegals.

You have to have been laid off at a very specific time/way to get these benefits. I sure don’t qualify and it sucks.

You're right.

And our side pointing the finger at what they're doing and trying to 'explain' why it's a bad idea makes as much sense at trying to explain to one of George Soros's 'prosecutes' that allowing criminals to walk is dangerous for the community.

They already know that...
