A bill that would make Native American Day a paid judicial holiday and remove Columbus Day as a paid holiday was passed 16-0 in the Assembly Appropriations Committee on Wednesday, sending the bill to a full Assembly Hearing.

Given the meanings of words in the English Language, I find myself to be a Native American.
Just sayin’.
I’m a native American. I was born here.
Nope. Switching one day for another (which happens to be the same day)
“As court workers are the last remaining state employees to currently receive Columbus Day off as a paid holiday, AB 855 would make holidays off uniform once again for all state employees in California.”
Gotta read the article

my big mistake in life, other then moving clear across the country from my family, is not getting a govt job....they have it made.....
Yeah, me too. When I get’s my check?
Forget the paid holiday. Just give the land back to the Indians.
How is that for total REPARATIONS?
Removing a day to commemorate an explorer who proved you can reach the East by sailing West (that the world is round); and giving it to Native Americans is more like a Participation Trophy than a honor.
Fry bread, pow-wows and hunting is now a holiday. I can dig it.
In PA, the first day of hunting season IS a holiday — at least it used to be when I was considering a job in Sayre back in 2000.
I wonder if there are data available for how much it costs California (and due to bail-out money, US) Taxpayers to pay millions of state workers for not working 11 days a year.
