Two men have been arrested in connection with the disappearance 25 years ago of the California college student Kristin Smart, the authorities said on Tuesday.
Paul Flores, who was the last person to see Ms. Smart on the day she disappeared in May 1996 and whom the authorities had declared in recent months to be a “prime suspect” in the case, was taken into custody at his home in San Pedro, Calif., on Tuesday, Ian Parkinson, the San Luis Obispo County sheriff, said at a news conference.

It’s not too often that we see an arrest in cold cases. Good on the detectives for not giving up.
The Flores kid was a suspect the entire time.
Paul Flores, 44, has been booked on a murder charge, the records show.
No bail amount is listed.
Ruben Flores, 80, has been booked on an accessory charge and is being held
on $250,000 bail.
He’s been free for 25 years. Deport the dad.
Are there no reputable news sources reporting on this?
They have known about this guy for 25 years. If they have finally uncovered the smoking gun, that’s great.
Agree. Here’s a local news source.
Thank you
Crappy police/detective work
I live in the Seattle area and when the Green River Killer was operating in this area it was a big story. It fell off the radar after the killings seemed to stop. However, some years later the technology had improved to the point that some of the evidence could be looked at again. They did, and they got the guy. He had also been a strong suspect; but, they couldn't prove it, until later when they had improved tools to look at some of the evidence.
His father isn’t long for this world, so maybe he’ll come clean. If the younger Flores did it, he’s had more than one family member covering for him. It’s that “blood is thicker...” thing.
I’ll bet the old man is getting ready to meet his maker. Maybe dad feels the need to clear his conscience for covering for his sons evils and is dropping the dime.
dang, same thing.
