Georgians Give Roaring Applause to Masters Champion Hideki Matsuyama
Townhall.com ^ | April 13, 2021 | Chris Talgo

A funny thing happened in the small town of Augusta, Georgia on Sunday evening.

For the first time ever, a Japanese golfer won the prestigious Masters golf tournament. And the thousands of fans in attendance gave a full-throated roaring ovation. And this occurred in Georgia.

But, wait. I thought Georgia was a horribly racist hell-hole. That is, if I believed the mainstream media.

For the past few weeks, we have been inundated with non-stop media coverage of the overt racism that apparently runs rampant in Georgia.

First, we were told that a Georgia man recently went on an anti-Asian murder spree. CNN and the like ran headlines claiming the horrific event was racially motivated, such as this doozy: “White supremacy and hate are haunting Asian Americans.”

There was only one problem with all of this race-baiting. The alleged gunman admitted he committed the crime because he had a sex addiction and frequented certain massage parlors. He was not, as far as we know, a racist who targeted Asians out of his hatred for them.

However, that inconvenient fact was basically ignored by the mainstream media, who stuck to the anti-Asian and white supremacy narrative, sans any evidence to support the claims.

Then, we were told that the Georgia Legislature is chock full of racists who want to prevent minorities from voting.

Under the deceitful banner “Voting Rights Under Attack,” CNN ran this headline about the Peach State’s new voting law: “Georgia Republicans speed sweeping elections bill restricting voting access into law.”

resident Joe Biden chimed in on the Georgia election law, calling it “an atrocity” and “Jim Crow in the 21st century.”

But once again, this was nothing more than race-baiting. In reality, there is nothing in the Georgia voting law that specifically targets the voting rights of minorities in any way.

The furor over the Georgia law seems to stem from the fact that the law requiresallvoters, not only minority voters, to present a picture ID before casting a ballot.

Actually, the only racist thing about Georgia’s new voting law is the outcry from leftists who seem to think that minorities are incapable of attaining and possessing picture ID.

However, that was only the beginning of the fallout from a law intended to protect the integrity of future elections.

Almost immediately, several woke corporations threw the state of Georgia under the proverbial bus. Major League Baseball removed the All-Star game from Atlanta as a punishment for the Legislature’s election integrity law.

Many more woke companies, including Delta Airlines and Coca-Cola, also berated Georgians for supporting the commonsense law.

Yet, as I watched the final round of the Masters, I was struck by how much support the fans gave to Hideki Matsuyama as he battled several white Americans for the title of 2021 Masters champion.

Based on the mainstream media’s portrayal of Georgia over recent weeks, one would expect that Masters’ fans would have treated Matsuyama quite differently.

It is a good thing millions of Americans watched the tournament, because it confirmed what most Americans know deep in their heart: the vast majority of Americans are not racists. Even in Georgia.

I think most decent, capable and intelligent Americans have figured out the real racists are in Washington DC and call themselves "Democrats."

Personally, I would want an American to win. However, I would give a polite golf clap (old school variety, since I am old) to any winner from any where. I would do so because it is good golf etiquette. I wouldn’t go nuts over an American winning either.

Most reasonable Americans will applaud accomplishment and effort.

Matsuyama was applauded not because he was Japanese, but because he was the winner.

It was a double win. A Japanese woman won the LPGA Masters tournament the week before.

I remember when another Hideki (Matsui) aka Godzilla won the MVP World Series trophy for the Yankees back in 2009. Was cool to see the Godzilla dolls in the parade crowds in NYC. Now NYC and MLB are sewage far as I’m concerned.

I was kind of rooting for Matsuyama, not only because it’s a great personal achievement but I thought it was great to see the first Asian and First Japanese in history win a Golf Major Championship.....

It’s such a historic thing for Japan that the PM issued a glowing statement about how great it was for Japan and the game of golf....

After it was over, I thought it was a great gesture by Matsuyama’s caddie who when putting the flag stick back in the hole on 18, stopped faced the course, removed his hat and bowed....paying respect to Augusta National....

I've no idea where you got that metric, I know I've read so many articles on this topic that it looks "familiar" and I think it's a little low. Your over-arching point that the clear and convincing majority of Americans support requiring ID to vote.

FFS, our dumbass pResident Xiden floated "travel passports" (your papers please!) to move about the country, so why not ID to vote? Delta - ID needed to fly.

Coca-Cola - ID needed to buy their adult beverages

And the list goes on, and on, and on. Geez, if I need to show an insurance card and State ID to get my healthcare insurance to cover me, why in the world shouldn't I also need an ID to vote - arguably the most important duty we as citizens of this great country have?

One last thing: I saw a video recently that interviewed black Americans about needing an ID to vote. To a person, NONE of them had an issue with it. In fact, several were offended that white liberals would think they don't know where to go get a state ID.

Who are the racists in this country? White. Liberal. Democrats.

You'll like this video which proves black voters don't think requiring an ID to vote is racist.

I thought the young man managed the back nine “Masterly”.

He utilized his extra strokes to perfection, avoiding any “Tin Cup” moments.

Good stuff.

Please. This is neither “great for Japan “or great for golf “

This guy will be forgotten after next year’s tournament

...removed his hat and bowed....paying respect to Augusta National.

Saw it and it was a class act.
From what I gather, Matsuyama is a very nice young man...all the other players like him a lot.
I still root for Jordan Spieth to win!
It was great golf to watch.

Don’t be so myopic, in the USA he might be forgotten but he won’t be forgotten in Japan, where they are crazy for golf....

He will be a hero in Japan and make hundreds of millions in endorsements in Japan....I’ve seen estimates of 600 million to 1 billion dollars, if that’s forgotten then forget me...

Before Covid, this guy was mobbed by dozens of Japanese media that reported on every shot the guy made, winning the Masters will do nothing but dramatically increase that....
