White trash family; Appalachian hillbilly types who migrated to southern Ohio for factory work. Single mom was a junkie. Got shuffled from one temp home to another growing up. Ended up with a problematic grandmother who at least tried to set him straight. Borderline kid on the edge of trouble growing up. Joined the Marines as an alternative to dead end manual labor in a declining rustbelt town. Found discipline and direction in the Marines; served in Iraq. Ohio State on the GI Bill. Grades and test scores got him into Yale but the financial aid package was not enough; worked two or three jobs through law school. Made a success of himself. Apparently a conservative and probably a Republican despite Yale. If he were black, the lefties would have raised him to the godhead by now, provided he changed his politics and learned to whine about being a victim. Anathematized by the left for his first book, because he dared to suggest that poor people have agency, that everyone is responsible for his own actions, and that breaking out of a dysfunctional culture means having the courage to change the things you can. Sees honor in honest work and accepts the idea of starting at the bottom and working one's way up.
What exactly do you think disqualifies him?

Just watched the film and I think it’s safe to say that JD Vance would never sell the American people out to China. That the most important qualifier I can think of right now.

Because he may understand Horacio Alger well enough
But he is light on culture war
The war we are in is all culture
It’s not fiscal versus spenders
It’s the we hate white people and Christians
It’s the we hate America and western civ
It’s the we hate traditional family
It’s the we hate free people having guns
Against us
They wish to destroy out culture in total
JD Vance doesn’t get that...and Peter Theil who is useful regardless does not either

Neither does Townhall understand this either
They are clinging to the old paradigm ....not GOPe but not Trumpian either
Townhall is perfect for original Nevertrumpers here who have sneaked back in
I see them
