There was a professor in California who ate a pound of DDT to show how harmless it is to humans.”
I remember reading about someone who did that and lived to tell about it. Got a write up in several agricultural magazines.

You can’t have a good ecological disaster without adding climate change into the mix somewhere.

Is it still edible? A famous scientists routinely ate teaspoons of it.

100 years ago they’d dumped most of the WWI ordnance, including poison gasses, into the North Sea. MUCH worse stuff than DDT. Megaton news of fish consumed thereabouts later, nada. Now if the’d instead dumped Rachel Carson, her books and her advocates 70 years ago millions of her victims might have lived. Arguably more than taken by WWI.

liquids are fairly noncompressible. Only if they were partially EMPTY would they collapse under ocean pressure... and only as much as they were empty (although they would be ruptured probably and then start to leak).

It is simply astonishing how that true facts about DDT are unknown to most people. DDT was banned after Rachael Carlson wrote “The Silent Spring” in 1962. Much of what she wrote has been debunked. She blamed DDT for thinning bird’s eggs, dramatically reducing bird offspring, making spring silent of bird songs.

In fact banning DDT has killed more people than all of the wars that have been fought. It is still killing millions annually RIGHT NOW by depriving countries of insect control so that their populations die of Malaria.

DDT is “suspected of causing cancer”. So are half the chemicals that are tested, including many of those that you eat. They are “suspected”, not “demonstrated” to be a cause.

Note that many of the birds whose populations had declined, began their declines long before DDT was even invented. DDT did not come into wide spread use until well after WWII.

Oh my! “dozens of decaying barrels” versus the estimated 187 quintillion gallons of water in the Pacific Ocean.

We’re doomed!

Also, it’s grasping at straws to relate these barrels to sea lions’ cancer. California’s sea lions have zero genetic diversity, being “restocked” by a fw Alaskan pairs several decades ago. Now, if you saw similar cancer rates among sea otters etc., (which for all I know, you might) I’d make find it worth testing your hypothesis.

Anyone remember “Horror of Party Beach”? This was the whole premise of the movie. MST3K did a great episode on it:

"So what really happens when those drums rust away and gradually release the DDT toxins into the ocean? Can’t be good. However doesn’t the gradual release and dilution mean that the actual enviormental consequences are not that severe?

Consider what these barrels have been subjected to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_California_hurricanes. They never should have been dumped at sea, but nothing in the article talks about the half life of DDT, while the cost of clean up must be weighted against the need and the further burden on tax payers.

"The real science won’t matter of course. What will matter will be how this will be used to advance the anti capitalist narrative.""

Article: As predators at the top of the food chain, DDT in fish is also a danger to people. Williams says this is especially true of underserved communities who are mostly likely to subsistence fish, eating what they catch. In this way, NOAA's project addresses environmental justice by attempting to make fish more safe to eat.

"Underserved communities" = code for targets of liberal inculcation of the demonic "victim-entitlement mentality" in which liberals work to magnify whatever disparity there is btwn groups in order to present themselves as liberators of the oppressed, thereby fostering indolence and lack of initiative while making the the "victims" more dependent on the liberator, thus ensuring maintenance of power for the selfish saviors,

"Environmental justice" = code for justifying research grants to liberal universities and gov. programs the increase regulatory power.

As I read this article, I was fairly impressed, this being from SeeBS, that global warming wasn't mentioned. Then the bubble broke when I got to the last paragraph (emphasis mine):What a shame.

I used to spray myself down with DDT bug killer (not repellent) fifty two years ago in SE Asia. Still Kicking at 74 and no cancers.

I grew up on acreage. I don't know where my dad got them but we had dozens of spray cans full of surplus DDT when I was a kid. We used to spray each other and everything else with them. If the dog or cat had fleas we sprayed it on them... No more fleas! If a friend had head lice we sprayed them down. If kids did that with the insecticides that replaced DDT there would be a bunch of seriously ill or dead kids. We had some post DDT chemicals that we used in the 80s... if you got a drop on your finger it would make you seriously ill. A lot of people died using the DDT replacements.

My wife is a vintage military uniform expert. One time she was asked to inspect a batch of WWII uniforms. They were mostly wool and all in perfect condition. The person who was having the uniforms inspected asked her what the little metal tags on them were. My wife said that they meant that the cleaner had moth proofed the garments and that is why they were in perfect condition. The person asked how they did that. My wife told her that they had all been thoroughly dusted with DDT. The person shoved the boxes containing the uniforms toward my wife and said, “Just get them out of here!” They were incredibly rare and valuable and still are.

Who says the irrational beliefs of leftist are not sometimes helpful.
