There were some violent Antifa/BLM looking types on the capital grounds that day. It is on video. There were probably a few idiots on “our side” that got a little carried away too.
Yes, the vast majority of people were peaceful and “took the tour”, but let’s not ignore that Trump supporters provided the same cover for dipchits that peaceful protestors did all of last year. The same exact narrative can be said about events that day that was heard around here in response to the BLM riots.
We need to keep it real. This was the first chance the media took to paint MAGA supporters as no different than BLM/Antifa and they took every advantage of it. It was certainly not as violent as many of the BLM/Antifa led events we witnessed, but it was not all wide-eyed people praying in the rotunda either as many are describing it.
To the credit of some, many MAGA types were telling the others to knock it off and behave, but that was also witnessed at some of the BLM marches.
All that mattered in the end was the media narrative and they got EXACTLY what they wanted that day. Exactly.
What’s sad is that the MAGA types who behaved badly that day really betrayed President Trump. He was counting on our side rallying peacefully as we always do. It’s a well established pattern that conservatives go out and have a good time with their homespun signs and pick up after themselves and are peaceful almost to a fault. But the pattern didn’t quite hold this time and a relatively small number of bad apples, excitable goofballs, and unwary naifs handed the media its narrative on a silver platter and totally undermined Trump. It has to be one of the worst political own-goals ever.
