Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and Queen Elizabeth II’s husband of 73 years, died on Friday at Windsor Castle. He was 99.
The royal family confirmed the Duke of Edinburgh's death on Friday in a statement.
"It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle," the statement reads.

Seeing as Philip was worshipped as a god by cargo cultists on Vanuatu, I suppose it’s only fitting that HRH The Duke dies several times today, instead of just once. :P
c-covid?
I’ve seen it IRL many times, long marriages where one dies and the other follows pretty shortly. Hope that’s not the case here.
Oh I hope not, too.
He was also a serving officer in the RN during WW2
My first thought also.
My condolences to the Queen.
A fitting tribute to someone who has had to put up with the merkle dumbassery. Although he probably made a comment or three about her. :-)
You may need to read up on your history again. I like the guy and he was no harmless ninny
I just finished reading a bio of Louis Mountbatten (1900-1979). He died when blown up on his boat by a bomb planted by the IRA.
There’s a great family tree inside the front cover.
Louis Mountbatten was the uncle of Prince Philip by way of Louis Mountbatten’s older sister Princess Alice (1885-1969) who married Prince Andrew of Greece (1882-1944). Together they had five children and the late Phillip was the youngest.
The really interesting fact I got from the family tree is that Queen Victoria (1819-1901) is the great great grandmother of BOTH Price Phillip AND Queen Elizabeth.
Somehow this will all turn into a story about harry and markle.
Seems like most of the ‘royals’ are genetically linked somehow across europe. Russians to Greeks and everything in between. JS
Except for all the actresses he cavorted with back in the '50s and '60s.
“I suppose the best that can be said for him would be that he was polite, harmless, avoided controversy, and didn’t meddle in things.”
What is true and what I liked is that he was far from politically correct. He said what he thought and the rest be damned.
He pretty much did for most of his life.
RIP. 99 is a pretty good ride.
He got into trouble one time for saying to an African leader that he looked like he had gotten up and worn his bedspread to some function. And he was right.
If they’re smart - they’ll have a small private family service at Windsor. If Markle doesn’t show, it will be a good opportunity to mend some fences between Harry and his brother and father.
Phillip did not want a state funeral. He did not want all the fuss.
