From what I understand, being placed on a ventilator is a highly traumatic experience, often requiring drugs to suppress the experience and memory of it.
If this article is even slightly true, then I bet that is the largest factor.
I have friends who weren’t on a ventilator who are having some neurological problems. One wasn’t even hospitalized.
I don’t think it’s common, but it is an issue.
