The Texas state court system is signaling that it will no longer enforce a federal order aimed at stopping evictions during the coronavirus pandemic. That could clear the way for landlords to push ahead with tens of thousands of eviction cases that have been on hold.
The timing could be particularly painful for many families, coming after Congress has approved billions of dollars to help people pay the rent they owe to avoid eviction, but before the vast majority of renters have been able to receive any of that money.
Legal aid attorneys are raising the alarm that the state is about to allow a wave of people to be put out of their homes, with no place to go.

Blame it on the COVID propagandists, where it belongs, not to the landlords who have bills to pay too.
The economy is open, they should be able to get a job and pay their rent. If you were a good tenant prior to the lockdown you should be able to negotiate something with your landlord.
They’ll go to federal court to continue being deadbeats. But...there’s a good chance that Trump’s judges (most of which would not have been confirmed without RINO votes, by the way) will rule in favor of the landlords.

At what point do tenants become squatters? Fed gov is totally out of control. There is no constitutional basis for most of the crap they do to us. Grrrr...

Just kidding. They apparently don’t care about landlord pain. The only way the government should be able to stop convictions is to pay the rent to the landlord. A lot of landlords are just average people trying to rent out a house.
But no thought of the families who have to pay mortgages on those properties, not to mention maintenance. Most rental property owners are simple middle class people.
I am not a landlord, and would never want to be one.
That said, how on earth is this in any way just or right to deny the Landlord their livelihood?
Just another example of why this whole response to this “pandemic” has been a travesty from day one.
In the years ahead, we are going to see the terrible damage this ham-handed stupidity has wrought to our economy, industry, and society.

Which is how it should be. The renters needs to be proactive and work with the landlord. The landlord is still on the hook to pay the taxes, maintenance, and a host of other things. Rent goes to pay for all that. If its a good tenant, and the landlord is reasonable, it can be worked out.
As for the other part--the CDC has no authority to be issuing orders that have to be complied with. But the Left will try to gaslight people into thinking the CDC does have that authority. The way it stops is for people to tell them to piss off.
Uh-huh. I'm sure landlords would rather see the rent money paid to them, rather than go through the costly (to them!) eviction procedure.
Yeah, those EVIL property owners. Probably all white folks taking advantage of others. Not to worry, when the govt owns EVERYTHING landlords won’t be an issue. Well, private ones anyway of which there will no longer be any. Unless you’re one of the elites in favor with the ruling cabal.

Considering there was no constitutional nor statutory legal basis for the CDC issuing ANY kind of edict on landlords, why would a Texas court - or any court for that matter - enforce this capricious regulation?
I think it’s extremely dubious that Congress could enact legislation to bar landlords from evicting non-paying tenants as - to me - that would be a clear violation of the 5A takings clause (among other infirmities). But, there is absolutely NO WAY the CDC enjoys the authority to issue such a directive. It’s an insane usurpation of the civil rights of the landlords. Insane.
You cannot live rent free in someone else’s house forever. Not even in the former Soviet Union or communist China.
These tenants are going to pay the rent or go back and live in mommy's basement again.
The pandemic did not cause the economy to crash. While certain sectors of the economy took a hit, others filled in the gaps. Restaurants changed from eat-in to deliver and take-out. People shopped less in stores and more on-line. These changes caused the deliver industry to grow. People who switched from working in an office to teleworking drove business in the office-supply sector.
The bottom line is that there is no excuse at this time for people of working age not to be working.
Yup, one of my 3 tenants has been behind since covid hit when the wife lost her job and his hours were cut the same week last March, but they’ve been regularly paying when they can and are at the point where they are basically caught up (half the rent coming in a week late). I’ve made sure they always knew the latest benefits they were eligible for and stayed in friendly contact throughout. Other two tenants have paid like clock-work a day or two early every month.
