Yes, the government should make my gas guzzling car more valuable.

So us rural (i.e vastly more conservative voters) citizens will get hit far harder than the urbanite dwellers (i.e. vastly more liberal money sucking dependent voters) will.

Can’t say I didn’t see these types of moves coming either.

And track where you visited and for how long, and your driving speeds.

Our wannabe overlords are relentless now that Trump got expelled.

No, none of their damned business. They already tax gas and regulate cars.

It is not like the gov’t tracks our phones! They respect our privacy and do not collect our messages and data, right?

Of course they should and more. People are overweight so they should track calories. Some people watch too much TV - another tracking candidate.

And how about FaceTime, Twitter and Free Republic? Just a little code that Jim Robinson and others can add to their websites or go to jail. A piece of cake.

They don’t call it a slippery slope for no reason.

Likey so. No telling what is in the brains of these cars.

And any car with a mic for use of technology. They are surely listening. Just like talking about buying or needing something and opening Amazon or internet and bam, look what’s on sail. I quit using Facebook a long time ago but almost everytime I opened it there would be a add for something my wife and I was discussing. Last time we were talking about buying a new mustang. Opened Facebook and there is a add for the new mustangs.

Last I heard was that they’re talking about getting rid of the 80 cent gas tax and replacing it with a 25 cent mileage tax. Sounds like a good deal to me!

This is a gift to urban areas.

And it’s a tax on the red bits.

Social engineering using the tax code.

NO, it should not, but it’s going to as it prepares us for a total government takeover of transportation. You’ll be giving up your autonomy with your private car since it will one day be gone and replaced by “self driving” cars controlled by one Central Computer.

Tracking is nothing compared to what this will become.

Then the government will want to charge you for removing the horse’s “exhaust emissions”.

Such a tax should be levied on electric cars only as they do not contribute currently to the gas tax coffers. But this is also a government caused problem as the government has pushed electric cars.

Nonetheless; my main point is that about 50% of my driving miles are unplanned convenience miles. I do not do a very good job of being efficient in how I arrange my daily driving. I just go. If a mileage tax were in place, I could probably reduce my miles easily by 25% to 30%. Then where is their revenue. Stupid government unintended consequences.

No. the government can't wait to control our movements, limit our ability to travel at will.

To all of those yearning for self-driving cars: the government can't wait to control the routes you take, the distance you travel, and shut your car off if they don't want you on the road.
