Covid-19 certainly wasn’t the beginning. Americans were told “the world changed” after 9/11. Basic pillars of the American system, like the Fourth and Fifth Amendments, were too antiquated to deal with the “new threat of terrorism.” Warrantless surveillance of our phone, e-mail, and financial records and physical searches of our persons without probable cause of a crime became the norm. A few principled civil libertarians dissented, but the public largely complied without protest.
“Keep us safe,” they told the government, no matter the cost in dollars or liberty.
Perhaps seeing how willingly the public rolled over for the political right during the “War on Terror,” authoritarians on the left turbocharged their own war on “climate change.” Previously interested in merely significantly raising taxes and heavily regulating industry, they now wish to ban all sorts of things, including air travel, gasoline-powered cars, and even eating meat.
Since Covid-19, however, even the freedom to assemble and see each other’s faces may be permanently banned to help the government “keep us safe.”
Assaulting our liberty isn’t the only characteristic these crisis narratives have in common. They share at least two others: dire predictions that turn out to be false and proposed solutions that turn out to be ineffective.

It’s collective insanity. I saw a couple walking down the street, holding hands, each with a mask on. No one within 50 feet of them.
I’m over 60, and likely have covid as I type this. I’m going to be tested tomorrow, but I’m pretty sure. I’m lucky, minor symptoms. But, I wasn’t scared, I didn’t let it stop me from doing what I want to do. The irrational fear of this just is mind boggling.
Because Fascist Tyrants need FEAR and PANIC to entice the ignorant into giving up their CONSTITUTIONAL FREEDOMS.
It won’t work. Humans need human contact, hugs, holding hands, close contact, kisses, we need to be and feel connected to others of our kind. This attempt at forced separation will ultimately fail as more and more humans realize that without the hugs from a grandmother, the gentle, unmasked kisses from your lover, the soul will die and that is something worth fighting to get back.
I have noticed it’s mostly under 50 crowd who wear masks outside here in lock down Oregon...or women

Vast majority of populace in US, and world wide, are sheeple. As the top tier species, we still act and react like Lemmings, Goats, Sheep, etc.
They have thoroughly scared the crap out of everyone who is unable or unwilling to think for themselves. We even have it on here. There is one guy who pushes a thread every day highlighting the statistics on how many people have died from it.
I guess he thinks COVID deaths are like taxes...we only accept paying such high taxes because we don’t have to write a check for taxes and see them all in one fell swoop.
I guess. I don’t know.
But so many people just buy into this. I can’t believe people just accept this intrusion by the government.
So much for the Leftist mantra “My Body My Choice”.
I don’t even want to go out in public and see people wearing masks.

I’m not sure the article answers that. It may have briefly mentioned anti-industrialization. If that’s the author’s answer/conclusion, I don’t agree.
it will end up being an ENDEMIC..like the FLU. Something that happens on a yearly basis.

In rural and suburban northern CT I am not seeing masks outside—even in trail areas where there are signs telling people to wear masks on the trail.
.Gov has overplayed their hand—and now a lot of folks are just putting their edicts in the “ignore” file.
The younger generation were overprotected as children, not allowed to fail or lose and they live on social media.
They spend most of their time on mindless entertainment and know only how to emote and “feel”.
This makes thinking and rational problem solving a lot harder for them.
The virus is a control freaks dream. So many opportunities. The only limits are their imaginations.
I’m under 50 and all I do is shame or make bleating noises when I’m around males (not men) who are wearing masks.
That quote can’t be said enough.
