President Biden has requested information from Education Secretary Miguel Cardona regarding his legal authority to cancel student loan debt as progressives pressure him to take executive action on the issue.... Advocates of canceling student debt by executive action say that Biden has the authority to do so under the Higher Education Act of 1965, which allowed the secretary of Education to back student loans. They also note that using legislating to cut the debt would require Republican buy-in, which appears unlikely.

What is so compassionate about granting money to dishonorable people who renege on paying back money they borrowed?
Since democrats are determined to bankrupt the nation with their mega-handouts to the world why not hand over an equal amount of money
to those who were prudent enough to not incur college loans and to those who have already paid back their own college loans?
Biden wants to write off up to $10,000. Leftist activists have been pushing him to cancel $50,000. The way universities have gone with indoctrination, the general outcome probably won’t matter much one way or another. Either way, we’ll be seeing more incompetent people in public and private administrations. Most students probably won’t be steadily employed enough or getting enough income to repay the debts.
Many graduates in special categories of employment have already been getting free rides for decades.
I say we cancel our tax debt, Asshats.

Originally Bernie was proposing canceling all Student Loan Debt, and making all College and University tuition free. Biden mindlessly adopted this scheme, and made several other tangential promises also. Now, he has forgotten most of it.
Was a foolish idea anyway. Cancel all student debt, and they would be canceling any future student loans. Who would make a loan that will not be repaid? Either that, or the taxpayer would be stuck with another trillion dollars in bad debt. Stupid.
I seem to remember that a similar situation was in place right before the 2008 Election, with bad Real Estate debt and fraudulent investment “products”. That led directly to the “Great Recession of 2008”. Great.

Good. All STEM degree student debt should be forgiven until the H1B, OPT and other foreign work visa programs are dismantled and these vida holders are sent back to India and Communist China.
Americans racked up $100K to $200K in student loan debt in such worthless fields as Engineering, Physics and Computer Science just to have their future jobs given to Indian and Communist Chinese H1B and OPT scumbags (remember for every OPT a company hired, it saves 15% in payroll costs)

Sort of the same here. I have a day job and a part-time night job that I used to pay son’s college and now daughter’s. Living on 3-4 hours sleep after night job and 2-3 before. Should I quit and just take out loans for the next two years? Some people picked colleges based on what they could pay, took jobs, had parents work extra, etc. Why are only people who took loans rewarded? The larger the loan the more of a reward! makes no sense.

Just add it to a Foreign worker levy. Make companies employing foreign trash pay the full amount of what ever it costs. Companies will start hiring Americans.
Oh, and any company that moves its operations overseas in response to this levy, tariff the hell out of goods and services from that company.

Yeah 74% of American STEM graduates are unable to find gainful employment after graduation. Those jobs are reserved for Indian and Communist Chinese OPTs and H1Bs. Remember the OPT is unlimited and gives any company hiring an OPT a 15% tax break.

So you have absolutely no problem with the US importing millions of foreign workers to take most of the STEM jobs and increasingly most white-collar work in the US?

No, companies hiring foreign workers should be forced pay.
A nice foreign worker levy of perhaps $75K to $100K a year per head should do the trick. Large fines for any company with more than a 5% foreign work force.
