More consumers will soon be able to test themselves for COVID-19 from the comfort of their own home. On Wednesday, the Food and Drug Administration approved two rapid antigen home tests for use in the U.S.
Americans will soon be able to purchase Abbott's BinaxNOW and Quidel Quickvue tests at drug stores. The two options join a test made by Ellume, which received FDA approval in December, in the market. The two, newly-approved swab tests will be sold at a lower price point.
The BinaxNOW and Quickvue tests are expected to be sold in two-packs for around $15-20; Ellume costs $30.

Great!!!
Now why can’t they get a flu test available at a similar price point?
How about a cancer test, also.
Home results as well? Can I anonymously pick one up at a drug store and pay cash? Or is this an end run to get you into “their” system.
Check the accuracy of any ‘15-minute’ tests. NOT GOOD from all I’ve read.
High false positive rates.
Check also if the test kits were manufactured in China.
I haven’t checked background yet for these kits by Abbott and Quidel. Maybe later.
Donate blood! Every blood bank in the country does COVID testing on donations. If you’re curious, go donate blood. It doesn’t cost you anything, and you’re doing something good for your community.
If you’re the right blood type, consider donating plasma or platelets. Platelets are a dire need for cancer patients, and you can donate every 2 weeks.
It is impossible to see how these tests will be more accurate than the best tests now, which have many false positives.
I suggest their accuracy CANNOT be as good as the lousy best tests now being used, and therefor will be “easy” but even more inaccurate than the current best tests.
What they will do is convince more people who do not have a Wuhan Virus infection that they do have such an infection.
The “officials” will love that result.
You are "supposed" to do them "online" with their telehealth app (a person walks you through it and reads the result "officially" with you).
Unofficially, however, you can find the full instructions online easily. The trickiest part is putting exactly six drops of solution into a hole on the card (and getting a good sample from your nose, obviously).
Covid just went through my entire house, and the tests do seem to function correctly, although they are not 100% sensitive very early in the infection.
Great information, thank you! I’m sure many others will explore this further. Hope your family are all recovered.
