Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has finally addressed the border crisis — but only to accuse anyone using the term “surge” of pushing a “white supremacist” philosophy.
Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has repeatedly been accused of ducking the dangerously overcrowded migrant detention centers despite saying they were akin to “concentration camps” under the previous administration.
She initially appeared outraged when asked during an Instagram Live ask-me-anything session why she was “not addressing the border crisis and the kids in cages like you used to” — asking after a pause, “Are you for real?”
“It’s not a border crisis. It’s an Imperialism crisis, it’s a climate crisis, it’s a trade crisis. And also it’s a carceral crisis,” she said, without directly addressing the kids-in-cages allegation itself.
“But people don’t want to have that conversation. They want to say, ‘But what about the surge?'” AOC said.
“Well, first of all, just — gut check. Stop. Anyone who’s using the term ‘surge’ around you, consciously, is trying to invoke a militaristic frame,” she insisted.
“And that’s a problem, because this is not a surge. These are children and they are not insurgents and we are not being invaded.

This woman and her deranged thinking are dangerous. It is critical she be countered with critiques of her proposals (which is basically just a matter of showing some arithmetic for why she’s insane) and with better ideas (which requires a right-of-center party with actual ideas and values). President Trump’s leadership is needed now more than ever.

“Carceral crisis”
This is woke slang. It’s supposed to sound intellectual, but in her case it’s mimicry. There’s a whole framework of talking about crime and imprisonment intended to give the impression that people who commit crimes and are jailed for them just kind of fall into those circumstances by accident, or some random fluke. Not because they have criminal mindsets. “Justice involved” is another one.

A surge accurately describes what’s happening at the border and has no military connotation.
The word she’s thinking of (and properly used) is INVASION

I used to think Ms. Occasional Cortex was dumber than a rock, but must revise my assessment downward. She’s dumber than the tiniest grain of sand. Someone should clue her in that a surge and an insurgent are two entirely different things. Although they sound similar, they don’t even have the same etymology.

Not to mention the fact that she uses the word improperly. Unless they’re violently resisting the government, no one would consider the people crossing the border illegally insurgents. If she prefers, BLM and Antifa could be considered insurgents.
