The lawmaker told The Times he suspects somebody is trying to extort him and his family for $25 million.
“I have a suspicion that someone is trying to recategorize my generosity to ex-girlfriends as something more untoward,” he told the newspaper.
He added in a series of tweets Tuesday night that he and his family have been working with the feds in an investigation that involves a former DOJ official seeking to extort him. “My father has even been wearing a wire at the FBI’s direction to catch these criminals. The planted leak to the FBI tonight was intended to thwart that investigation,” Gaetz wrote.

The State Department tried to keep him from getting a U.S. visa between 2006 and 2009 because they believed he had unspecified connections to criminal elements in Russia as he consolidated power in the aluminum industry. Deripaska has denied those allegations and claims FBI agents told him in 2009 that the State Department file blocking his entry to the country was merely a pretext.
Whatever the case, it is irrefutable that after he began helping the FBI, Deripaska regained entry to the United States. And he visited numerous times between 2009 and 2017, visa entry records show.
We now know that, on multiple occasions during those visits, the DOJ and FBI secretly collaborated with Deripaska in the hope of getting help, first regarding Levinson, then on Ohr’s matters, and finally on the Manafort case. U.S. officials told me they assumed Deripaska let Putin’s team know he was helping the U.S. government and that his motive for helping was to keep visiting America.

Either she exists or not. Either she was underaged or not. That should not take the FBI more than a day to determine, yet this “investigation” has been ongoing since the Trump administration was in office. Who are the three FBI employees who leaked the story? Why does Wray still employ these individuals this morning? Is it possible that the Director of the FBI cannot uncover this simple fact? After the “Russia” probe and the criminal misuse of the FISA courts the American people know that the FBI is a secret police force for the Democratic party and the Gaetz matter simply confirms it.

It relates to the guy who is extorting him.
The guy who he says was trying to extort money from his relatives is the lawyer who repped the family of Levinson in a case against Iran. He won the case, not that Iran will ever pay up, but it made him appear more legit and allowed him to limit the contact the press had with Levinson’s family.
