Some in the Nixon Administration thought he was nuts. On one occasion, he supposedly held his hand over the flame of a candle in a restaurant to show how tough he was. His burns were so bad he had his hand wrapped in a bandage for a while.

I could picture Liddy doing something like that too!

One another occasion, he got himself over his fear of rats by catching one, cooking it and eating it.

Anyway, he was definitely a colorful character.

I remember him talking about the rat story. In fact, it was in his book “Will”. He was quite the character.

Robin Williams based a joke on the candle incident:

“G. Gordon Liddy for Bic Lighters, first time every time!”

He did that and many times, too.

Was to demonstrate his force of Will.

His book describes how he overcame his fear of fire, rats and thunderstorms. Very interesting.

Remember a caller to his show one day asking about how to do that very thing.

My take on his response was to never try it myself.
Needed to be VERY carefully handled while raw and thoroughly cooked.

I then decided, if really hungry, i would snatch eggs from underneath a sitting ostrich instead.
Much safer.
