Trump’s heir? Pence reemerges, lays groundwork for 2024 run

WASHINGTON (AP) — When former President Donald Trump was asked to list those he considers the future leaders of the Republican Party, he quickly rattled off names including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Sens. Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz. Conspicuously absent from the list: Mike Pence.

The former vice president is steadily reentering public life as he eyes a potential run for the White House in 2024. He’s joining conservative organizations, writing op-eds, delivering speeches and launching an advocacy group that will focus on promoting the Trump administration’s accomplishments.

There wasn’t a single issue that he deviated from the Trump line.

No, not a single one. But at least four biggies I can think of off the top of my head. That's more than one (single).

1.) Submarined Flynn

2.) Recommended Derp State sleeper appointments.

3.) Fauci.

4.) Election.

Pence could have sent the electors back to the 6 states that requested them back to clarify their state elections.
Instead Pence allowed Biden & friends steal the Presidency

I would like to see DeSantis.

The Donald should run for the governor of Fl or the Senate.

If he does run for POTUS again, then take DeSantis as his second.

As I’ve said here before, the whole “Pence is a traitor” thing is bull crap. His ability to reject electoral ballots was wholly theoretical, and a not very strong theory at that. Completely politically untenable. If he has tried it I think both he and Trump would have been impeached for usurpation of power, with a fair chance at conviction.

I don’t think I’ll find much disagreement here that Trump was not good at personnel choices, and this was one of them. Pence did a serviceable job, but shouldn’t have been picked in the first place, for the reason you cite. I didn’t like the choice when it was made.

Given his blandness, and the significant nutter “he’s a traitor” brigade, the notion he could lead this party is laughable.

That may be his strongest point. I’m from Indiana and can tell you Mike truly is one of the most conservative people I’ve ever met. That being said he is not Trumpian in his demeanor. In his first run for congress he was that in your face politician and was thoroughly whupped by a milquetoast democrat professor. He swore he’d never be that person again. Since then he’s been very successful politically being the quiet, thoughtful voice in the room. That is why he was chosen as VP. And yes there were people who voted for Trump because of Pence being on the ticket.

So how does that play in 2024. We know the democrats will be running one of two people, either addled Joe or screechy Comma-LA. Neither of whom are likable or come across competent. They will be supported by an ever more radicalized, left leaning, partisan press. The country will be a dumpster fire after four years of O’Bama III. A quietly confident, seemingly competent man with a solid conservative record as Governor, congressman and VP might be just what the soccer moms, never trumper republicans who liked his policies, but not his abrasive styles and the mushy middle are looking for. Plus his ‘Mr. Nice Guy’ persona that you all hate would stand in stark contrast to the raving madness on the Left.

Of course many here won’t vote for him because he didn’t call out the NG to arrest all the democrats on 1/6/21 and send them to Gitmo. But there are a lot of good conservatives out there who are not quite so radicalized, and would support a thoughtful, competent, conservative candidate with solid bona fides.

Flame away.

You are correct and concise.

The US Constitution does not prescribe ceremonies and the VP’s role on Jan 6 was not merely ceremonial. When put to an important task of the highest order and importance, he acted like he was just playing a role in a prescribed ceremony.

Not presidential.

Nothing theoretical about it. The Constitution is plain when it comes to that.

His wilting in the face of Tim Cook's hot air (while IN governor) disproves your argumentum verbosium.

The VP, as President of the Senate, opens the electoral ballots and presents them to ‘Tellers’ (selected members of Congress). The Tellers count the ballots. That’s it as far as the Constitutional powers of the VP. The VP has traditionally announced the results, but I haven’t seen where that’s in the Constitution, Congress could select anyone to announce results.

Certification of ballots takes place at the State level, before the ballots get to Congress. If members of Congress dispute ballots, Congress as a whole votes on whether or not to accept them, the VP doesn’t have any power to reject ballots.

Maybe someone can point to specific language in the Constitution giving the VP the power to throw out ballots? Not there that I can find.

It would be a riot to get even with the left if he won and steps down and gives it to Trump they would be jumping off the tallest buildings they could find.

He didn’t help Trump make any inroads on Capitol Hill. He was silent during Robert Mueller’s witch hunt.

"The media wants to push Pence?"

No, but there are Freepers here (not you) who unwittingly aid the legacy MSM in signal-boosting a crAP nothingburger piece to stir GOssiP and distract from the puppet-state installation.

No, but Jill Colvin of the AP is having a slow news day. She's almost certainly asked The Columbus Dogpatch to get a picture of Pence maskless on April 6.

So, no and no.
