The Ottoman Empire did not build the canal. It was built by a French company headed by Ferdinand de Lesseps from 1859 to 1869, under a concession from the ruler of Egypt, Sa’id Pasha (d. 1863), who was succeeded by his nephew Isma’il Pasha. The rulers of Egypt were effectively independent of Ottoman control. They were of Albanian descent.
It’s a 200,000 ton ship according to every source I’ve heard.
The canal was built by the Suez Canal Company ,construction was supervised by a french engineer Ferdinand de Lesseps ( Another of those evil white men). The only involvement of the Ottoman empire was to grant a 100 year lease to the canal company.
