BERLIN (AP) – German Chancellor Angela Merkel has blamed her country’s difficulties during the coronavirus pandemic — from the slow vaccine rollout to the back-and-forth over lockdown rules — on “a tendency toward perfectionism” and called for greater flexibility to tackle the latest surge in cases.
In a lengthy television interview with public broadcaster ARD late Sunday, Merkel acknowledged that mistakes were made by her government, including on plans for an Easter lockdown.

Oh sure, you know, the super race and all that.
It is funny. If they hadn’t been so perfect, they would have von da ding that vee never mention.
Stereotypes are often true for a reason. Having lived in Germany for four years and married to a German for 51 years, I agree with Merkel.
Maybe they should have put I.G. Farben in charge.
They, by and large are perfectionists. And sometimes ridiculously rigid and unimaginative.

P.S.
Du habst der krieg verloren!
It’s not “a tendency toward perfectionism”, it’s National Socialist desire to control of others.
Similar to the differences between blue and red states on vaccine distribution. NY has developed a monstrous, complex distribution system that has caused bottlenecks in vaccinations. Bureaucratic paralysis.
Germans do tend to overthink situations and very often come to the wrong conclusion. About every twenty five years they make an overall catostrophic strategic decision. By all accounts they ought not to exist at this point.
About 6 million Jews died as a result of this German perfectionism.
Are you suggesting genocide?
And man got to the moon with German perfectionism.
Is she chancellor for life? I think Germany could use fresh voice and perspective. Unfortunately these days the replacement is far worse as the people and parties are increasingly de-evolving as people and evolving as sheep.
Once the Germans were all warlike and mean
But that couldn’t happen again
We taught them a lesson in 1918
And they’ve hardly bothered us since then.

No. But do believe that Stalin was remakably kind and restrained when he finally got his hands on the people who killed so many Russians and brought incredible suffering and destruction to his country.
Merkel says she is retiring after September elections. She has already resigned as head of the Christian Democrats.
The EU zone, including Germany, had no equivalent to President Trump’s Operation Warp Speed. This includes no pre-ordering of 100s of millions doses of vaccines while they were still under development. This alone supercharged both the development of vaccines and their availability in the USA.
Every single vaccine available today, with the exception of Pfizer/BioNTech, also got direct development funds from Operation Warp Speed.
Germany, could have simply piggy backed, as they usually do, off the research and development paid for by the USA. All they had to do was follow President Trump’s forward looking strategy of massive pre-ordering of vaccine doses.
Now they’re living, and dying, with the fallout of this poor planning. They simply don’t have the necessary supply of doses to vaccinate at anywhere near the speed that we’re doing here in the USA.
I know what Stalin did. Nazi genocide bad, commie genocide worse, and in other places as well.
