Parts of Tennessee, including Nashville, were under a flash flood emergency early Sunday morning as a powerful storm system rolled through the region -- with reports of people clinging to trees to avoid the rising water.
"Major flash flooding is occurring with numerous roads, interstates, and homes flooded with water rescues ongoing," the National Weather Service in Nashville said. "Please stay home and do not travel."
The service said there were multiple water rescues ongoing across southern Nashville and there were "people clinging to trees."

Live in Northern AL. Just awakened to the loudest clap of thunder I’ve ever heard.
I watched several storm chasers all afternoon and evening as they tracked storms around TN. One ended up in Nashville around midnight and just ended his live stream. Flooding was bad.
Now listening to Lookner. Constant calls coming in on the scanner. Not a good day/night for a lot of folks around Nashville.
The storms just reached us a few minutes ago and thank goodness they calmed down a little. Torrential rain but little wind.
Dang, that is so sad. It won’t surprise me if there are a lot of casualties before all’s said and done. There was a LOT of rain in that part of TN today ..... er, yesterday now.

After the rain we had last night...I’m pretty sure the grass seed & fertilizer we put out this weekend is gone straight down the gutter. Maybe even the new concrete driveway we had installed last week.

Rember the 2010 Storm that rolled across the State? Flooded out the E. side of the Millington Naval Base-BUPERS, and the city, 1 lone FEMA BUS. ServPro and Navy cleaned up the base.
Is the Cumberland river full of carpetbaggers that have been washed downstream?
Hard to believe that the Grand Ole Opry once flooded at that location.
Last night here just west of Knoxville was atrocious. The worst we’ve seen since we moved to this house six years ago. Lots of hail, too.
A neighbor’s tree crashed through our powerlines here in SE Nashville around midnight and almost crashed through our roof. Took 12 hours to get power restored. The crew, unfortunately, left the tree and mess behind.

We’ve had so many flash flood warnings, I wasn’t paying attention until I saw your post.
I ended up watching Agenda Free TV on youtube which was covering with the emergency scanner in the background. Wild night.
Last numbers I heard were 4 dead (Tennessean 10:29am Sunday) and 130 rescued (Fire Chief video).
Daughter’s best friend’s house flooded. Flooded in 2010 too.
Time to get the fire pit roaring
