Another Lewis gem that is a good read for our current age is That Hideous Strength. It’s the 3rd book of his (rather unusual) foray into science fiction, but filled with the usual Lewisian insight. In particular it depicts a scenario of an ascendant Hell working through its control of the intelligentsia in a way that echoes with what we see around us today.
I have to agree, That Hideous Strength was prescient.

Here’s a telling quote from That Hideous Strength, explaining to an ally from the distant past the futility of open resistance and seeking to rally the public:
“It could not be done now. They have an engine called the Press whereby the people are deceived. We should die without ever being heard of.”
I read this every decade- I need to be reminded of how easy it is to get persuaded by evil.

My response is always...”I will answer your question if you can explain to me from what alternate higher morality comes the framing of your question? Do you have a higher God that gives you context and authority in questioning my own? Are you a pot that was given a voice to question its maker?” Sometimes I simplify by asking...”I will answer you question when you can tell me...what makes a thing morally right and what makes a thing morally wrong in your view?”
A question like that is impossible to answer unless one remembers that while we are to acknowledge Christ as Savior we don’t have to answer for why God does what he does. Sometimes like our Lord before the San Hedrin, we can simply stay silent.
It wasn’t that hard, if you understand progressives.
