Is this mainly given for ‘hyperactive’ children?
I guess jury is still out on what works best; prescription drugs or behavior modification. Some kids may simply need more structure in their lives, without the structure becoming too rigid.
Too many parents are willing to let the “experts” attach labels to their kids. It gives everyone a pass on any problem whether it’s a behavior problem, a discipline problem, or what I think is the biggest issue - the failure of schools to educate children. Teachers now have a ready-made excuse as to why Johnny can’t learn. Dyslexia in particular is usually bogus. Many kids mix up their letters at first but get over it after a while. If you think about it, how can you see a letter one way and write it the opposite, but not then see it the opposite from what you wrote? I probably didn’t make that clear, but think about it for a bit.
I recommend the book “How Children Fail” by John Holt. (good read, even if Holt was an aging hippie with some goofy ideas on child-rearing in general)
