The Chinese threat to invade Taiwan is serious and more imminent than many understand, the US admiral chosen to lead the Pentagon's Indo-Pacific region said Tuesday.
China considers recovering control over Taiwan its "number-one priority," Admiral John Aquilino, nominated to become commander of the US Indo-Pacific Command, told the Senate Armed Services Committee.
"The rejuvenation of the Chinese Communist Party is at stake" with the Taiwan issue, he said.
Aquilino disagreed with outgoing Indo-Pacom commander Admiral Philip Davidson's recent comments that China could attempt to attack and take over Taiwan as soon as six years from now.
"My opinion is that this problem is much closer to us than most think and we have to take this on," he told the panel, which was reviewing his nomination.

Take pharmaceuticals for example. Over 70% of active pharmaceutical ingredients used in the U.S. market are produced overseas. Almost all of the ibuprofen sold here comes from China.

Taiwan is a superpower when it comes to top quality semiconductors/chips.
And Taiwan is a key part of the “First Island Chain” blocking Communist China from open ocean access.
If the ChiComs take Taiwan, it becomes their springboard to the world, instead of part of the barrier fencing them in (in naval terms.)
Next big issue: the winter olympics.
If “the world” is going to go, the CCP won’t attack Taiwan before the Olympiad.
If the world is not going to go, all bets are off, and the CCP might attack Taiwan next week, month, or year.
But they will attack, while the USA is consumed by “Clownworld Syndrome.”
And Taiwan is a key part of the “First Island Chain” blocking Communist China from open ocean access.

That’s why the Philippines is the key. The area between Taiwan and Luzon is hugely critical. Yet Freepers say it’s not our business.
If China shuts off all Pacific trade to the US, that’s a huge issue. It just needs to take Singapore, Taiwan and the Philippines and that’s it, the US loses the Western Pacific.
And Guam is part of China’s Second Island Chain.
And Hawaii is part of China’s Third Island Chain
admiral moneybags needs another $5 billion aircraft carrier, and the Soviet Union went the way of the dodo bird. you can’t scare congress into a huge defense appropriation with a dead dodo bird.
Lot easier to defend to the US from the Communist Chinese from bases in Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, the Philippines and Singapore, instead of Wyoming, Montana and Idaho (some Freepers have even said let China have the West Coast, as it’s already Communist)

That’s scary
The semiconductor issue may be crucial. It may be that the fabs in Taiwan will need to be destroyed, as those chips are almost as important as things like nuclear power or oil reserves. I suspect we have entered a new industrial age and those chips, of which Taiwan has some of the most sophisticated in existence, are going to be as important to this age as steam was in the first industrial revolution. And, yes, they can be made anywhere, but it takes years to set up a fab and a long time to perfect the procedures required to make them world class.
In the future, we will probably talk about BB and AB, Before Bandwidth and After Bandwidth. To see how important this is, before Covid 19 there were office buildings in New York that had eight thousand or more people in them. Covid hit and many companies who were in those building have discovered they can work just fine with employees living and getting paid in cheaper states and working from home. (In one instance, the building that had eight thousand workers in it now has about 500 who are winding down the company’s businesses and moving computers out.) Numerous companies have announced they are not coming back to those offices. Many, if not most, of those buildings will never be occupied again. New York, as we knew it, is never coming back. That is, in large part, due to those very chip sets made in Taiwan.
Oh, and the best thing about De Blasio is that he is the one who will take the blame. He apparently hasn’t realized this yet, but likely, his career has already cratered. He just doesn’t know it yet.
It’s hard to say, but the USA might be building its last aircraft carrier as we speak. Hard choices are coming for the Pentagon budgets over the next couple of decades on account of irresponsible government borrowing & spending. We keep this up and the Navy we do have will be tied up pier-side for lack of fuel, spares and trained crew.
Chinese military leaders are now waiting for the signal to strike as soon as they perceive Biden to be on the ropes, scatterbrained, losing his memory, talking gibberish and not knowing it.
So, any day now.
China considers Taiwan to be theirs.
They would like to take it without firing a shot.
There is a better chance of the US surrendering to China without a shot than Taiwan.
They will take it, nonetheless.
How’s that Free Trade thingy working out.
Kinda of expensive don’t you think.
I think Taiwan will be invaded in the next year.
Most think the CCP will wait until after the winter olymiad.
I don’t. I think they’ll go now, while U.S. leadership is a s#itshow.
Oh, well... those who voted for Biden wanted this.
The Chinese are going to take Taiwan on Slow Joe’s watch. Slow Joe and his circus of diversity at the Pentagon will just whine and cry but do nothing. The big money are the never ending wars in the middle East.
of course china will take Taiwan, and of course Biden will be shown again how impotent he is.
This wouldn’t even be an issue if Trump was still in office.
If the situation gets very serious re a Red China military action build-up, look for the ROC-Taiwan to announce that they have nuclear weapons, esp. bombs, cruise missiles, and some medium range nuke-tipped city busters. Also nuclear missile subs and attack craft.
I lived in Taiwan for a summer and met some of their military officials. They are not stupid. They are very aware of the deadly threats facing them 20-90 or less miles away.
If I were Dictator Xi, I would be worried about what he doesn’t see going on in the region. Very worried!!
