Slow day in this report, after a monster surge in the day before (more than triple today's).
New cases continue to level off a bit above 50,000/day (from a high over 300,000/day on January 8th), while deaths continue declining relatively steeply (the 7 day avg. is on track to drop below 1,000/day next week, at the current rate of decline).
I'll re-baseline my daily calculation tomorrow, to reflect how CDC reports have changed. I'll probably stop trying to estimate second shot numbers, and just track total administered.

...any more than any other vaccine does. If someone coughs a load of COVID-19 virus up your nose, you then “have it” and could spread it. You are however much less likely to become sick or die from it. There also would be much less virus reproduced within the body of a vaccinated person, to further spread the disease to others.
There is no magic force field that would keep you constantly sterile of it, despite exposure (just like any other vaccine). What the COVID-19 vaccines do, is make your immune system much more capable of fighting the virus (like other vaccines).
So just because it does not have a 100% effectiveness, does not mean that it does not have any effectiveness. In fact, they are around 95% effective in preventing illness, almost 100% effective in preventing death from the disease, and Pfizer was measured in Israel at better than 90% effective in preventing transmission - better than most vaccines, on all counts.

Not at all.
The half life of the mRNA is about 10 hours. Only while it is circulating, will ribosomes in cells produce copies of the spike protein, for the immune system to recognize. Those spike proteins are just fragments, incapable of reproducing themselves. They wash out as well, relatively quickly. Their presence is temporary.
mRNA does not modify DNA. At all.
DNA is well secured inside the nucleus, to protect it from any changes, from any challenge - like viruses, which have been a threat throughout our whole evolution. mRNA does not enter the nucleus, and cannot make changes to DNA.
The spike protein DOES NOT remain with you indefinitely.
The vaccine DOES NOT modify your genetic make-up.
It will (shortly, when countries that want tourists fix rules) permit me to travel in Europe and Asia without all the funky quarantine bans and waiting periods.

The idea is to stimulate your immune system to have memory to spike protein and neutralize the virus as soon as possible. It so far is very effective and more data everyday.

That process is to get out of the nucleus, not to get in.
Why aren’t we mutating all day long? Because the DNA is strongly protected against it, to maintain through generations and millenia.
