There was a science fiction story 10+ years ago in a future where 1/4 of the world’s population looked suspiciously like a billionaire who had died years earlier. My memory is fuzzy but as I recall he had genetically engineered a relatively “harmless” virus that superimposed his DNA on the victim’s sperm. These people were discriminated against in that dystopia.
Of course, this is CERTAINLY NOT what is going on here, but this is probably how rumors get started.
