This has always struck me as simplistic if not revisionist. I suggest we (re)read Plato's Apology. I'll need to dust off my copy of Hamilton and Cairns.
As I recall one of the charges was for "corrupting youth". If one looks at how Socrates famous students turned out, there may be considerable truth to the charge.
He was an old, drunken profligate (see the Symposium).
